MORMONISM... MINGLED WITH MEMETICS
YEARS LATER — MY NEW WEBSITE ON MORMONISM

October 6, 2006

As you can see, I have not revised this website in several years. I'm going to leave it as is and believe people will continue to benefit from it. I agree fully with the viewpoint I have expressed at this site back in 2002, however, my views have continued to develop further. Here is what I felt about Mormonism in 2002 (pardon the harsh language):

Man, what can I say? The Mormon Church sucks. It sucks to have to waste SO much time in boring meetings. What is the point of these meetings, anyway? It sucks to serve in a calling where you have to enforce these idiotic norms and taboos. It sucks to have to fill your mind with drivel. It sucks to have to sing those stupid, boring songs. It sucks to give up every Sunday for these meaningless rituals. It sucks to feel guilt all the time. It sucks to feel like you should be sharing the Gospel with your nonmember friends. Gees, if THIS is the life that awaits them when they accept the Gospel, no wonder I'm hesitant about sharing it with them! It sucks to always have to answer to someone for everything you do and think. It sucks to avoid science because it might hurt your testimony.

I can't say I disagree with this today, because if I were to get involved with the LDS church again, this is exactly what I would feel again. However, there are other layers in religion that can have worth for personal development. I respect people who approach religion or spirituality as a platform for some sort of inner transformation. I am interested in this myself, though I engage in it outside of religion and continue to disbelieve in god. So, anyways, I have this new project...

This website is dedicated to the search for esoteric ideas in Mormonism. Strictly speaking, it is not anti-Mormon, because I only reject "exoteric" (popular) Mormonism as a potential path toward spiritual growth while showing that Mormonism is full of potentially worthwhile and valid esoteric ideas — well, actually, hints at esoteric ideas that are not a part of modern "Sunday-school" Mormonism. Nowhere are these ideas formulated or brought together in a complete whole.

Stop by to check it out and comment on any of the pages of the site!
