A Real Snow Job (Episode 146) Review

BRIEF STORYLINE: The turtles, April and Irma travel to Littlebrook, in the Alps in Europe. Meanwhile, Splinter goes to meditate in the mountains. The rest of the gang locate to an alpine village. A strange thing occurs, for this time of year, April notices ice and snow is melting through her own TV reports in Littlebrook, where the ice has shrunk on a mountain gradually.

We find out the strange scenes are getting caused by Shredder and Krang. Krang orders Shredder to the village with a Zoetropic wave device that has huge power to sizzle away all of the world's ice! This would cause the real-life problem of Global Warming, where the melting of the ice woulds the planet's coastal areas to flood including the turtles hometown New York! Eek!

April, ever the journalist, finds out their plans and gets herself kidnapped by Bebop and Rocksteady at her own place in an alpine lodge, and taken to Shredder's HQ inside a mountain. However, she leaves a clue behind for the turtles to find.

Irma finally finds a main squeeze in the Swiss/Autrian(?) ski guide Gustav, and is having the happiest time of her life. He helps out the turles through his knowledge of the area.

Will the turles get to Shredder's HQ in time, or will there be SNOW time left as Littlebrook will no longer be a blanket of white, but have lashings of water, turned into an Aquatic wilderness?

TMNT REVIEW HQ COMMENTS: Not that memorable an episode, however there are very few eps featuring the whole turtles adventure in the settings of a snowy enviroment. Below the usual standards of a TMNT episode.

It's a welcome change of course. The start isn't that well edited and unoriginal. However, good choice of music for Splinter, when he is leaving our green heroes for some solitary meditating in the Alps. Whe he is leaving Splinter talk in his usual sensible, wise ways, and Raphael reacts by saying something to Michaelangelo like after how so many episodes there have been he should know that "He always speaks like that". So the beginning of the ep has unispiring and unimaginative dialogue. These little funny lines the makers put in, reminding us all that this is only a cartoon, doesn't always come off as smart and witty!

The guy Irma bonds with, Gustav, is like a big strong guy that sounds like Arnold Swarzenegger. The things Irma says just to be with the guy, shows her geekyness(if that's a word!), but that are the low points of this episode. Not forgetting strange dialogue from Gustav, calling Irma "my little stroodle". The Arnold Schwarzenegger sound-a-like then goes one step further and is actually a cyborg, complete with metal lying under his skin. Although unoriginal, it comes as a small surprise near the end. So it was worthwhile to have him in this episode.

A funny moment happens when Shredder gets bombarded with Bebop and Rocksteady, coming through the portal and using him as a landing mat. Shredder comes out with his usual quote "what the blazes?!" as he didn't even ask for them. It's just because Krang can't stand them 2! The joke about Krang not having skin isn't funny, no matter what way you look at it. Also there's Bebop saying to Shredder "you can count on us" and Shredder replies "yeah, just the way you count on you're fingers"! Then there's also Shredder massaging his ego and talking about his life to April on TV, which she persuaded him to do.

Some exciting moments include the ski chase of the turtles after an out-of-control Raphael and Bebop and Rocksteady capturing April at her alpine lodge. The ski vehicles Rocksteady & Bebop ride in are cool looking and the only episode they appear in. The ending of the episode isn't great but the action is strong in the last half.

"A REAL SNOW JOB" GETS A 3/5 RATING.
