Divide and Conquer (Episode 194) Review

BRIEF STORYLINE: It's the last ever episode! It begins with the turtles in the midst of a battle with a large scaly alien. For some reason, the alien vanishes into thin air!

The alien has tranported back to a cantina on an unknown planet. Dregg is there, who is behind all of this. For any aliens who can survive 90 seconds with the turtles, they will receive power and wealth!

The turtles are in the Turtle Van absolutely bemused over what has been going on. Then, Michaelangelo fishes out a transmitter that was hiding in his shell. Just before he throws it outside, another alien appears and attacks them. This blue female alien grab's Donatello's bo staff, and disappears.

Meanwhile, at the Black Hole planet Mung fears Dregg is going looney with this obsession of destroying the turtles, and dismissing the original plan to conquer Earth. Dregg then betrays the five aliens who faced the turtles and survived, and absorbs all of their energy and abilities! Now he will tackle the TMNT!

Dregg then ferociously attack the turtles with these new powers, and he is too good for the turtles amazingly! Can the TMNT and April end the 9 year-old cartoon series on a high, with another victory, hopefully finishing Dregg off for good?

TMNT REVIEW HQ COMMENTS: The last episode does do itself proud to an extent, as it's not a bad episode. Krang's android features in this, but sadly no Krang, or even Shredder, Bebop and Rocksteady, to give the cartoon possibly it's finest exit. However, it's an action packed episode, that is one of the better Dregg-featured episodes.

The episode starts off well with a frantic fight between the turtles and this unknown alien coming out of nowhere. It gets most original as Michaelangelo even gets to drive a plane on a runway to take the alien out.

The first scene with Dregg is surprisingly good, and setting of an alien cantina(think canteen or bar) keeps you hooked. The female shape-shifting alien tussle with the turtles in the Turtle Van brings out some funny lines including Raphael's "lose some weight" advice to the alien, now transformed into a Rhino. Then there's Michaelangelo's "stop that blue babe dude, or i'm going to surf right off the cliff" as he's driving the Turtle Van, going beserk hilariously.

Dregg's getting real mean now, and i like it. After Mung critizises him about his obsession with the turtles, Dregg almost blasts his laser eyes at Mung, which is a prelude to how determined he will become to stop the turtles, because there are some long action scenes here.

There's enough time to even feature a turtles in training scene in the episode, which is ok. In a more effective segment later on, Dregg absorbs the the powers of the five aliens, and as we soon see, it's very orginally-thought up powers.

We get more humour from Raphael, such as in the lair, he sense more aliens coming to take a free shot at the turtles, which he feels is becoming like a gameshow "Time to welcome contestant number 8 to beat that turtle". Perhaps even funnier is Raphael again saying "I'll take a 2 week paid vacation to Hawaii" when Dregg gives him the choice of getting harmed by which of his weapons.

The first major action scene between the turtles and Dregg with his body suit and new powers are fine. The duel they have later on in April's apartment isn't as good, but just OK. The last action scene ends solidly, as the turtles, controlling Krang's android sends Dregg through the portal with it's explosion imminent. We still don't know if Dregg gets killed, but that is something we will never know!

We get to see the Technodrome for the first time since the 1994 Season, and the old Technodrome music we hear, but it there is a little change to the sound, but not much. For some reason they find a second Krang's android which is evil and has a fork tongue and chases the turtles. Yes it does get a bit surreal. I'd say it's quite a good ending dialogue-wise, as Splinter says the turtles no longer need to learn Ninjitsu anymore from him, as they are fully mastered. However, it would be more ideal if it was pizza in the microwave that goes kaput, instead of popcorn. Pizza got phased out in the "red sky" episodes, why?!

Well, the last ever episode may be a little under-whelming considering who isn't in it. Its not the best episode ever, but not the worst either.

"DIVIDE AND CONQUER" GETS A: 3/5 RATING.
