Enter the Shredder (Episode 2) Review

BRIEF STORYLINE: The turles and April now go on this bold search for the technodrome, which they believe is hidden somewhere underground. April believes it is in the subterrean tunnel system.

Meanwhile, Shredder is furious with the turtles defeating his Foot Clan in the last episode. We find out, another significant occupant in the technodrome is Krang, a pink brain-shaped alien, and the Technodrome is his domain, and the technology is from his civilization. Krang wants Shredder to build him a new body. However, even though Shredder is getting help from Krang, he still doesn't trust what Krang will do once he has his body. Krang comes up with the idea that they can make up their own mutants to defeat the turtles. The mutagen can make you stronger, and shredder agrees with it and chooses 2 men from his punk gang to mutate, to cross-breed with 2 animals.

So, 2 small but fast robots called robotic unicycles hammer up to the surface and steal a warthog and rhino with little problems from the city zoo. Back at the Channel Six building, where April works, she has been relegated to the story of the zoo theft by Burne, her boss. Splinter goes on his own trek to find the technodrome. He finds it, but is captured by a robotic unicycle. The turtles now have to make their way back down below to save Splinter and are taunted by Shredder's voice to enter the Technodrome.

The turtles then go on a series of dangerous obstacles and machines designed to harm, before they meet Splinter's sworn enemy Oroku Saki, who they find out is the Shredder. He awaits them along with his 2 new mutants, Bebop & Rocksteady, and an offer for the turtles for them to join the honorable Foot Clan!

TMNT REVIEW HQ COMMENT'S: A quite impressive episode. This episode though has a bucketload of memorable moments like how Bebop & Rocksteady got mutated, and the process of them getting mutated is one of the best aspects of this episode.

There's also, our first sighting of Krang, who looks more devious and frightening looking than in later seasons. Also, his voice seems more sinister. Then there's the turtles first encounter with Shredder and the music sets the mood nicely enough. However, as far as the quality of the episode like the editing, it's very good at the start, but the quality does falter by halfway through the episode.

The fight scenes are mainly good, the turtles beating the Foot soldiers in the technodrome seemed rather too easy. The episode could be quite suspenceful with the obstacles like the moving walls about to crush the turtles into nothing. The turtles then have maybe a bit over-long fight with killer machines, but the editing is still kept to a good standard.

This episode does have some genuinely funny moments, such as when Shredder is about to begin experimenting with the human Bebop & Rocksteady-who are going to have problems integrating with society as Rhino and Warthog man-beasts- he says "you may have a little trouble getting a date on Saturday night!".

Actually the best quality moments was the dialogue between April, Splinter and the turtles at the beginning. But hey, the fight scenes are still more hard-hitting than the more blander fights you see in later seasons.

"ENTER THE SHREDDER" GETS A: 3/5 RATING.
