BRIEF STORYLINE: Earth is going through a period of atmospheric disturbance, and the turtles are starting to get TV channels from other worlds. They watch a wrestling match from the planet of the Turtles, where a tag-team called the "Flying Turtlenecker Brothers" defeat their opponents easily.
Dimension X is experiencing the same problems. Krang then sees this as another oppurtunity to power up the Technodrome and get back to Earth. He see a turtle named Rupert, selling and promoting a Personal Energy Projector on TV. When Shredder tries to steal the Projector, Rupert and the wrestling tag-team chase him back to Dimension X. However, Krang has a use for the Turtlenecker Brothers, to capture the turtles, and go through the dimensional portal to the NY sewers and do exactly that! April and Splinter, the ones remaining mange to get through the portal to Dimension X just in time before it closes.
Krang has almost drained the Earth of its energy. The rescued turtles are having to split up, one group to go to the Planet of the Turtles, to find the Dr who is the inventor of the Projector, and the other to stop Krang. Can they all do this in time before the Earth is lifeless?
TMNT REVIEW HQ COMMENTS: An episode that does take it too far with the whole turtle theme, but it does have it likeable moments. We witness a world where human-acting turtles live in their own planet, and we get to see some of the most absurd individuals from this planet. The wrestler turtles might make you laugh with the german accents, but don't leave a lasting impression on you.
There is some nice early drama when April is doing a TV report on a brand new style of helicopter, but when the helicopter is struck by man-made lightning(thanks to the strange event of the turtles/Krang being able to access channels from different worlds), the turtles hurry to the rescue of April as the helicopter starts to plummet.
The other main character we see from the planet of the Turtles is Rupert, a well dressed guy who talks like he is advertising a product including giving the price of the item, which does lead to much amusement throughout the episode, one of the few brightspots.
Another likeable moment is the turtles getting thrown into a ring and fighting the turtle wrestlers. However, the other action scenes involving the wrestlers are no better than this.
The whole of the scenes on the planet of the Turtles is not well edited. Warm, tropical colours are used for the sky and buildings that differentiate it from Earth. Turtle shells are used as rooftops hilariously though.
In one of the funny Rupert scenes, he comes out with what might be his catchphrase, when he exclaims "Kla-booie!" which is his attempt to describe that the Personal Energy Projector will explode after it gets worn out and no longer useful. The turtles repeat that same phrase, to drill the message into the viewer's head. Krang also has a part in the humour later on, muttering "you can't get a Foot soldier when you need one!", angrily pressing buttons on his keyboard. And he's at it again, as the final battle commences, he flees and says "I'm not staying for the climax!".
Most of this episode is not quality, however the ending/finale is done rather well, as the turtles reverse the effects of the Projector inside the Technodrome, which sends back the energy to Earth. Also Splinter makes another wise admission, telling the turtles that while they have all the energy, to use their energy to clean the Lair.
"PLANET OF THE TURTLES" GETS A: 2/5 RATING.
