Luis Enrique has been the heart and soul of the past two FC Barcelona teams. He was born in Gijon, Asturias in 1970. He has played in every position on the field except goalkeeper and central defender.
He was the second leading scorer for the "Ronaldo-dependant" team in the 96/97 season and has continued to put up big numbers. He came on a free transfer from Real Madrid in 1996 and has always played well
against his former team mates. He truly is a valuable asset to Barcelona and has been highly coveted by many European clubs including Manchester United and AC Milan.
He prefers to play right behind the strikers as a link between the midfielders and the forwards, but has played all over the field throughout his career. He also takes a lot of pride in his multivalence because
that's how he can help his team. Luis Enrique has said that he would like to play more years in Barcelona but would like to finish his professional career in the club of his childhood, Sporting de Gijon.
