The Uruguayan C.I.O.V.I. (Unidentified Flying Objects Investigation Center) celebrates its 50th. Anniversary on April 29, 2008 and publicly ends its activities.

Founded on April 29, 1958, C.I.O.V.I. has pioneered the investigation and study of the UFO reports in Uruguay. Along these 50 years, the Center was capable to solve aproximatedly the 99.5% of the investigated reports.

The last decade has been characterized by the absence of UFO reports and/or another relevant issues that demanded the intervention of the Center.

The Directive Council, meeting on March 26, passed by unanimity a resolution putting an end to the activities of the Center.

Nevertheless, the UFO files, the press files, the photographs files, the publications files, and the library, continue to be under the control of those people who until recently have been members of the Center.

Those member are now free to continue individually dealing with the issue, to create a new organization or to adhere to one already existent.

It is appropriate to clarify that currently in Uruguay there are not private organizations dedicated to the investigation and study of UFO reports. The only institution that remains is the official one, (C.R.I.D.O.V.N.I.) which operates within the Uruguayan Air Force.
