1.  Location of caboose carbarn
 * 40 ft. siding and main track -- 12 lb. rail
* Spring loaded switch using 16 lb. rail
* Curve leading to caboose carbarn has a 15 ft. center radius

2.  The Wye
* 3 spring loaded switches
- North switch is 20 lb. rail
- East and West switches use combination of 16 and 20 lb. rail
* Location of half-size crossing signals which protect the crossings
on the east and west legs

3. Heltons Passing Siding
* Location of Heltons Depot
* Block Signals control the north switch
* Approximately 90 feet long
* 2 spring loaded switches using 20 lb. rail
* Main track and all switch stands (including the 3 wye switches)
are from the Bucksgahuda & Western Railroad, Co., St. Mary's, PA.
* Main track is 20 lb. panel track, while the siding is 12 lb. rail
moved from the western end of the railroad in 1996

4. High Fill Curve
* 20 lb. rail on a 70 ft. radius
* Fill is approximately 5 ft. tall at its highest point
* Fill dirt was obtained from the cut (#5)
* Track was laid here during the summer of 1996
* Siding was built into new storage building in 2002

5. Cut
* Dirt removed over a period of 2 years beginning in April 1995
* Track was completed through the cut on July 7, 1997
* 25 lb. rail was used through cut and was laid on a 3% grade
* Deepest part of the 200 ft. long cut is 36 inches
* Dirt removed using only a farm tractor

6. New Bridge
*Built in August, 1997
*Built out of two used crossties from Norfolk Southern Corp.
* Used for drainage of trackside ditches
 
 
 

7. New Curve
*Grading was begun in August, 1997
*Built July-August 1998
*34.75 ft. radius using 20 lb. rail
*Grade Crossing was built on November 21, 1998
 
 
 

8. Abandoned track
*Built in August, 1993
* Used 12 lb. rail from Knoxville, TN and
25 lb. rail from the Orbin Phelps Farm, Abingdon, VA
* 12 lb. rail taken up in July 1996, and
used to build the passing siding ( #3)
* 25 lb. rail removed in September, 1997 and used
near the new bridge (#6)
* The lower part was built in 1991 and dismantled
in September 1998 for proper alignment with the new track.
 
 

9. Summit
* Highest Point on the railroad
* 1000 ft. Marker
 
 

10. "Golden Spike"
* The track was joined here on September 26, 1998
* The golden spikes were driven at 4:02 pm
by Matt & Wiley Helton
 
 

11. Phelps Grove
*In Memory of Orbin S. Phelps
* This point was reached in November 1990
* A grove was started here in the Fall of 1993.
* The trees are from the Orbin Phelps farm,
the Helton property, Bucksgahuda & Western RR,
the Buffalo Creek & Gauley Railroad (W.Virginia) right of way,
and from the Mount Union yard of the East Broad Top Railroad (Pa).

* This bridge was built in 1991 for drainage
