the good ol' days were when we were young,
the days were longer, and things were more fun. cardboard boxes would
serve as mansions, and our parents clothing as our fabulous wardrobe.
voluntarily getting up at 6 in the morning just to watch cartoons on saturdays.
going to church just for the doughnuts and hot-chocolates afterwards.
not questioning
faith. not questioning people. not
questioning trust. not having to.
when mom or dad brought home candy from the store, or a present back from work, it was the most exciting part
of the day. when mom and dad still loved each other, before you were
old enough to realize what marital strife was, and that your parents were
getting the hard end of it. before peer pressure gets you drunk,
or high, or whatever else your "friends" can get you to bend into.
back when our imaginations got the best of us. when a snow day was
fun, and not just another day to get your homework done. before periods,
and cramps, and shaving. when you actually did what your parents
told you to, rather than what you wanted. now you know what the drugs
are like, and what the drinking is like. and you never get to see
dad when he comes home from work anymore.
but you always have the sled rides, and
the weekends in the park, and the saturday morning cartoons, and the innocence.
yeah, those were the good ol' days...
