While in Mexico, Crowley was to meet an elderly gentleman named Don Medina who was one of the highest ranking Chiefs of Scottish Rite Masonry. Upon getting to know one another Medina was impressed by Crowley's vast knowledge of the Arcane Sciences and rapidly admitted him to the 33rd and highest degree of Scottish Rite Freemasonry.
Aleister Crowley in turn made Don Medina the first High Priest of L.I.L.
In its original inception the Order was a Crown to Scottish Rite Freemasonry and its intent was to restore the Magickal Background to the Masonic System. However, the Masonry of A.C.'s day was a Judeo-Christianized mockery of the Ancient Mysteries of Khem. Instead of the Pyramid, King Solomon's Temple is substituted as the Archtypical Structure & the rituals became gross advertisements for christism.
In 1904 e.v. all these old systems of initiation were abrogated by the dictation of the Book of the Law. This book announced a New Law for humanity & struck a fatal blow to all group related dogmas & religions.
In the New Aeon each individual perspective or point of view is cultivated as a star of shining light. There are now as many paths as their are people. Every man & every woman is a star.
As a result of this radical Aeonic change in magick & initiation the original L.I.L. rituals became inconsistent with the current Aeon of Horus. Hence the necessity of our changes.
And now this Great Work has been accomplished! A star has shone forth from the Desert & the rituals are now performed daily with joy & beauty. At last the rubbish of old Aeon dogma has been cleared away. The Temple stands with justice and truth.
