Henrietta Dorothea ROTHERT was born on 27 Jan 1836, probably in Ritterhude, Hannover, Prussia. Her father's name was Conrad ROTHERT, and her mother's name was Henrietta (surname unknown to me).
When Henrietta was 15 years old, she came to the United States of America on a boat with sails. The weather was stormy, the ship got lost, they ended up at their point of departure, and they had to set out all over again. The entire trip took about a month.
After Henrietta arrived in New York City, she stayed with friends. They told her that they had arranged a job for her in St. Louis, Missouri; however, after arriving there, Henrietta discovered that they had actually arranged for her to marry a minister. Henrietta returned to New York City very angry.
Martin Diederich KOESTER (changed to KOSTER in U.S.A.) was born on 14 Mar 1827, in Lesumstotel, Hannover, Prussia, a town near Ritterhude. How and when Martin and Henrietta met, I do not know. They were married on 05 Jul 1860, in New York City. (photographs) They had nine children (see KOESTER / KOSTER GENEALOGY PAGE).
Henrietta died on 14 Aug 1899, in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, New York. Martin died on 11 Nov 1899.
