***************************
As the moon shone brightly over the junkyard, it's glow met silence as
most of the cats lay sleeping. Munkustrap and Demeter were curled up
together, keeping each other warm in the crisp, early morning air. The
twins were lying on their blanket, their breathing in perfect rythum
with each other's. Only one visible cat was awake. He sat alone on the
trunk of the old Ford, staring at the moon. He was worried. His queen
had been acting very strange recently. As he sat, Jellylorum quietly
walked over from the pipe where she had entered, being very careful not
to wake the sleeping cats.
"Mistoffelees?" she wispered. No response.
"Misto?" Again no answer
"I have something to tell you." Still no response.
"Misto!" she wispered loudly, and tapped him on the shoulder. He emitted
a startled yelp and leapt three feet in the air.
"Misto, It's me! Jelly!"
"Oh, I'm sorry. You startled me," he panted, struggling to catch his
breath. "Is there something bothering you?" "Well, it's Raza-Ma-Taz. She hasn't been herself recently, and she won't
tell me what's wrong."
A low, soft sigh escaped from his lips.
"Oh, is there something you wanted to tell me?"
"Yes. It's about Razzy."
"What is it? Do you know what's wrong?"
"Nothing's wrong. Misto, dear, you're a father."
A loud metallic THUD resounded through the junkyard.
"Munkustrap, wake up! Come quickly! Misto's fainted!"
Part 2
Munkustrap was stirred to life by the sounds of Jellylorum's calls. He delicatly pulled himself away from the sleeping Demeter and made his way over to the trunk where Jelly was desperatly trying to revive the unconscience Mistoffelees. "What happened?"
"I gave him some news and he fainted!"
"Must have been some news." The twins, also awakened by Jelly's calls, quietly slid in next to Munkustrap.
"What should we do?" Jelly asked, fanning Misto with her paw.
"Have someone fetch water." Tantomile replied.
As if on cue, Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer popped up from behind a pile of garbage. "What's goin' on 'ere?"
"Misto's fainted! Go get some water!"
Jerrie rushed off to find some water while Teazer tried to find out what was going on. "Why'd 'e faint?"
"Jelly told him something."
"What did ya tell 'im?"
"Well, since Munku is awake, now I guess I can tell you. Raza-Ma-Taz had a kitten!"
"She did!"
"Wow! A new apprentice!"
"Sorry, Teazer, but I don't think Misto or Razzy would approve of that, and neither would I. "You never let us 'ave any fun!"
"Shh! He's waking up."
A low moan came from Misto as he struggled to sit up. "Wha? What happened?"
"You fainted."
"Am I having a dream? Or is Razzy really pregnant?"
"Not just pregnant! She's already delivered! Jenny is taking care of them."
"How many?"
"Only one, but a beautiful kitten she is!"
"What does she look like?" "She has a white face and a white up-side down triangle like you, except that white flares out onto her shoulders, down her stomach, and has faint white stripes on her side."
"Wow. My very own daughter."
Just then, Jerrie came running back with an old coffee pot filled with water. He ran up on the car with the pot, only to trip, spilling the water all over the cats. "Uh . . . oops . . . .heh . . . heh." "JERRIE!"
"I'm sorry Teazer!"
"I'll get ya for this!" As the angry, wet quen chased her tom around the junkyard, they woke up the remaining cats, who were soon informed by the wet Jellylorum about Misto's daughter.
"Congrats, Misto."
"Good job!"
"So where is she?" "I don't know. Where is she, Jelly?"
"She's right over here. Follow me." She led Misto and Munkustrap through the pipe into a small chamber where Jennyanydots, Raza-Ma-Taz, and a little black and white bundle lay resting on a pile of towels.
"Misto!"
"Razzy!" The two cats nuzzeled each other.
"You're soaking wet!"
"Don't ask. Where's our daughter?" "Mistoffelees, allow me to present our daughter, Mistoflare"
"Mistoflare/ Misto's Surprise"
Part 3
A few weeks had passed since the joyous event and the kitten Mistoflare was a bundle of energy. She had already begun to discover her powers, and her proud father, Mistoffelees, had his paws full trying to keep her magical paws under control. At the moment he was taking a well deserved break and lay stretched out on the trunk of the Ford, which was warmed by the afternoon sun.
"What ever am I going to do with that child?"
"Hum?"
"Hi Razzy."
"Were you talking to me?"
"No, just thinking out loud. Where's Mistoflare? I thought you were watching her."
"Jellylorum's keeping an eye on her."
"Good. That little ball of fire wears the life out of me."
"I know. Me too."
"Oh, well. The responsibilities of parenting. Where is everybody?"
"I don't know." Just then Mistoflare came prancing in.
"Hi Mom. Hi Dad."
"Where's Jellylorum?"
"She's coming."
"You know better than to run off and leave her behind. Lots of things could happen to an unprotected kitten. Especially one with your powers.""I know. But as soon as I learn how to use them, I can go without anyone to where ever I please."
"Wrong, young lady. We know what's best for you, and if I, or your father, or any of the adults tell you not to go somewhere, you don't go. Got it?"
"Yes Mother."
"Good."
