Early the next day, life in the alley streets went on for the Alley Cats. Inside a hole on the side of an old cement building, was Titus. The the entrance was covered with a thin ragged piece of cloth that dangled in the breeze. Inside, Titus sat, stretched out on an old torn couch that had springs and stuffing protruding from it. He sat there admiring his claws while drowning in his thoughts. His thoughts her soon interupted by Macavity's sudden presence in his home. Startled, Titus quickly stood from his couch, "What do you want?"
Macavity replied, "Just came to see how my favorite Alley Cat is doing." he approached the maned tom and growled, "We are doing our job aren't we?"
Titus looked away, "Yes sir." Macavity smirked, "Good, because I plan to have Munkustrap in my grasp tonight." Titus' eyes widoned, "Tonight?!" Macavity gave a twisted grin, "Yes, tonight. Lure him away from the others and we got him."
Titus was silent and Macavity gave a bewildered look. He placed a paw on Titus' shoulder and asked, "What's the matter? You seem distressed. You're not having feelings for the young jellicle queen are you?" but before Titus could answer, Macavity hissed as he drew closer, "Remember Titus, I created what you are, and I can destroy you! Bring me the jellicle tonight and you will be rewarded. I will make you leader of their tribe. You can have them but Munkustrap is mine!" and with that, Macavity left.
Just as Macavity left, Willy stepped in. "Now what do you want?" "I came to talk with you."
Titus frowned, "Okay, talk."
Willy hesitated as he started, "Well, I saw you and that jellicle queen yesterday night at the junkyard." Titus' eyes widened, "You were spying on me?!"
Willy took a frightening step back, "I was sent to." Titus suddenly slammed the gray tabby against the wall and he roared, "If you say one word to Macav-"
"I'm not going to say anything!!!" Willy cried as he gasped for air. Titus then released him and asked, "You aren't?" Willy shook his head, "No! Titus don't you understand?! You're our only hope!" Titus frowned more confused than ever but Willy continued, "All the Alley Cats have been talking about it! Befriend the Jellicles they can help us overthrow Macavity and his clan of Evil Cats!" Titus shook his head, "No." he mumbled but Willy persisted, "We can outnumber them and take over..." but Titus continued to shake his head, "No, no, no..." but Willy wouldn't stop, "...and we could..." Titus repeated, "No, no-" "WHY NOT!!!?" Willy cried. Titus was stunned at his outburst. A hot tear streaked down the gray tabby's face as he whispered, "My God Titus, we could be free again. We wouldn't have to live like rats anymore under Macavity. We wouldn't have to see our litter grow up to be worthless scums for Mac to take away and control for his own greedy purposes!" he then walked up closer to Titus and said, "Please Titus, you can save us. Do this for us. Do this for me."
Titus hesitated as he stared at his best companion before him. He then replied, "Okay, okay. Macavity will be expecting Munkustrap alone here with me. I'll just lure the entire tribe to the old condemned building down the street and we'll talk there about the battle."
Morning soon became late afternoon and the sun was lowering towards the horizon for another long night. Sillabub sat on the tire on the junkyard admiring a dandelion that she held in her hands. The others were in a quiet sleep on the junkyard floor, cuddled close to each other for warmth from the cool crisp air. Suddenly, Sillabub heard a whisper from behind her calling her name. She turned as saw Titus behind the tire from which she was sitting. With an overjoyed smile she whispered as not to wake the sleeping jellicles, "Titus!"
He leaped up on the tire and sat beside her. "What's that?" he asked, staring at the strange flower in her hand. "It's a dandelion." "Does it smell?" he asked as he took it and observed it for himself. "No." she answered, "It doesn't smell at all." Titus frowned, "Then what's so significant about it?"
Sillabub smiled as she leaned towards the weed that he held in his hand and whispered, "Watch." and she blew on it, causing legions of small white seeds to disperse in the wind. They resembled small aparachutes drifting away, leaving to other parts of the world to create more of it's kind. As they watched in fascination, Sillabub's eye suddenly caught something and she pointed to the sky and said, "Look! The first star!"
Titus followed her gaze and saw it hanging like a diamond in the blackish blue sky alone. "It's the North Star again." replied Sillabub with her radiant smile, "It's always the first one to appear." Titus grinned, "Oh yeah, the North Star, the brightest one." Sillabub glanced at him, amazed that he had remembered, "Yes, the one that helps you find the way."
Just then Munkustrap appeared and approached the two on the tire. He greeted Titus, "Nice to see you again Titus." but Titus didn't respond, he just sat there staring at the gray tabby's offered paw before him.Sillabub frowned at Titus' strange reaction and asked, "What's wrong Titus?" Titus glanced at her. Something was obviously troubling him. She could see it in his eyes. Titus finally replied, "There's something I have to tell you." Sillabub and Munkustrap grew concerned. "Go ahead." Sillabub replied. Titus drew a deep breath in and hesitated as he said, "I was in the city and I can't tell you who or what but I overheard some evil cats talking about coming to this junkyard. They're going to attack you all, tonight."
