Bangor Hibs 0-0 Crossmolina

Crossmolina wasted a great opportunity to boost their dim promotion hopes with a tepid display at relegation haunted Bangor on Thursday night. The home team battled to bring the visitors down to their level and generally succeeded as the game degenerated into a scrappy morass of midfield huff and puff with little opportunities at either end to brighten the drudgery. Crossmolina threatened in the first half when a corner kick hit the crossbar. Bangor responded with a decent shot which Michael Canavan coped with well to ensure a third consecutive clean sheet for himself and Crossmolina. Damien Garrett wasted the visitors’ best chance of the half, after doing well to round the Bangor netminder, when he hit the side of the net. Derek Greham left the game at half time and with him went Crossmolina’s best chance of a goal. Crossmolina goalie Canavan excelled in the second half when he flung himself at the feet of a Hibs forward to thwart a near certain goal. Crossmolina’s best move of the match was wasted when Michael Timlin strayed offside after a good interchange of passes between Padraig Whittaker and Steven Canavan, negating the resulting score. The visitors will rue two dropped points against a team who have been the whipping boys of the division this season. Hibs will cherish the solitary point and hope it will make the difference on Judgement Day when all the totals are compared.
