******* Virginians for Justice Alert ********* Mark your calendar for VJ Citizen Lobby Day! Monday, January 22, 2001 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m Let Your Voice Be Heard! Join Virginians for Justice as we spend the day educating our elected officials on issues of concern to Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender citizens and those with HIV/AIDS. Lobby Day 2001 will take place four months to the day after the anti-gay murder of Danny Overstreet and the shootings of the other victims in Roanoke. It is a great opportunity for the GLBT and GLBT-supportive community to come together and ask our elected officials for action. In addition to hate crimes legislation, VJ also work again on bills addressing sodomy law reform, anti-discrimination and other pertinent issues. Lobby Day 2001 Headquarters: The Commonwealth Park Suites Hotel 901 Bank Street, Downtown Richmond just across Capitol Square from the State Capitol Building Lobby Day begins at 9:00 AM with lobby and issue trainings. VJ staff will coordinate the day's activities. Participants will visit their legislators and see the Virginia House of Delegates and Virginia Senate in action. ** Immediate following Lobby Day: Lobby Day Reception 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. VJ will host our annual reception where attendees can mingle and meet with legislators, legislative aides and allies from other organizations. The reception is also at the Commonwealth Park Suites Hotel. All are welcome to attend. While VJ encourages everyone to consider spending the day in Richmond, those unable to attend can join us for our Virtual Lobby Day. More details to follow as we approach January 22! FACE strives to
end discrimination against persons who are, or who are perceived to be,
gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered, their families, and persons who
advocate for them. We affirm the inherent dignity and individual rights of
all persons. Accordingly, we promote humanitarian reform in public
policies and social institutions affecting all persons who live in, work
in, attend school in, or visit Fairfax County. Discrimination that denies
any individual the opportunity to contribute fully to the common good is
itself a deterrent to the continued prosperity of Fairfax County.
FACE is a non-partisan, non-sectarian coalition that welcomes as members all individuals and organizations sharing this commitment. |
