DIMENSION WARP

Skipping the phantom news
in its timeless journal
to page after page
of not so funny comics,
our crossword puzzle
seems ever incomplete
as certain meanings
are not defined by words,
the blanks impossible to fill.
Yet, by drifting away defeated,
a furtive, impish child
scrawls in some awkward,
personal marks,
looking up with pride
for instant praise
and sweet reward
which, smiling sadly,
we must give,
hoping they could be right,
and once in a very long while,
they are.
