FORTUNATELY

with earthbound parasites
big events happen slowly
in ways unforeseen
by such tiny
proliferating appetites,
creatures so mean and lowly,
given a bountiful Earth
they exploit the treasures
and turn it all to trash,
burning up the fuel
to grasp at stars
and their planets,
but finding none alive,
concentrate the power
to slice and devour
this biosphere pie,
insanely unaware
of watching it die.
