Our Top 200 Songs of 1998

Well, 1998 was an interesting year in music. Movie songs dominated the charts. Songs like Celine Dion's My Heart Will Go On, Aerosmith's Don't Wanna Miss A Thing, Goo Goo Dolls's Iris, and Faith Hill's This Kiss. This was also the year for new artists to make their impact. New artists like Jennifer Paige, Natalie Imbruglia, Next, Divine, 'N Sync, and Mya. Artists from the past also made comebacks this year. People like Madonna, Sheryl Crow, Alanis Morissette, Natalie Merchant, Whitney Houston, and Jewel.

248 songs reached the year-end chart this year, and just below we will be displaying the top 200 songs on this list, but first, let's take a look at how this chart was made:

Each weekly chart gave songs a certain # of points. IE. #1 - 50pts, #2 - 49pts, #23 - 28pts, #50 - 1pt. Each week a song spent on the OTB list, the song recieved an extra 3 points. Each week a song spent on the recurrent list, the song recieved an extra 1.5 points. Since the chart came so late, The Radio & Records year-end charts helped weigh in the songs that were hot the first half of the year. The final contributon was the personal year-end charts of both John & Jason. When all the points were totalled, all the songs fit right into place.

Let's check out who topped the weekly charts this year:
Brandy & Monica - The Boy is Mine: 14 weeks
Aerosmith - Don't Wanna Miss a Thing: 2 weeks
Backstreet Boys - I'll Never Break Your Heart: 3 weeks
Aaliyah - Are You That Somebody: 4 weeks
Divine - Lately: 1 week
Brandy - Have You Ever: 3 weeks

Some songs have come close. The following songs all reached #2 this year:
Shania Twain - You're Still The One

Well, I guess it's time for me to quit blabbing and display the chart!
