Fast, vicious black metal...from France?!? Yep, France. France has had an underground black metal movement for years (what with the "Black Legions" and all), but with this release, Antaeus attempt to drag the French black metal scene out into the open for the world to see. And it is indeed a sight to behold. There is great promise in this sonic feast. Antaeus play a style of black metal that borrows equally from almost every pre-existing style. The production is rather crisp--almost Swedish at times--and Antaeus are not afraid to take chances. I do have a problem, however, with the fact that some of the vocal patterns are incredibly similar in each song (rhythmically, I mean). Recommended for fans of fast, well-produced black metal.
