THROUGH THE EYES OF NIGHT (WINGED THEY COME) (2001)

The American black metal scene sure is diverse. There are so many bands who draw their inspiration from groups like Darkthrone, Burzum, and Blasphemy, and yet then there are so many other styles. Like Fog, for instance. These guys play a crisply produced Norwegian style of black metal which might best be described as mid-period Enslaved meets Satyricon's Nemesis Divina. While I genuinely do like and enjoy this album, my problem is with the fact that it sounds TOO MUCH like the aforementioned bands. In fact, somebody could re-title this Satyricon's Nemesis Divina, Part II and no one would be the wiser. Also, I have a serious problem with a band from Indiana singing about winter and cold in terms that make more sense coming from a Norwegian! Norway, Sweden, Finland...these places are renowned for their cold weather. Indiana is not. These guys aren't vikings. Stick to singing about Satan, evil, paganism, or attacking Christianity, because winter-oriented lyrics don't make sense coming from an American band.
