This has got to be one of the most underwhelming "classics" in the field of extreme metal ever. Venom and Bathory? I can understand the hoopla. Hellhammer? Not a clue as to why they were so revered. This EP simply bored me to tears. All of the songs (except "Triumph of Death") sounded so incredibly similar that I couldn't find a damn thing to get excited about. And even "Triumph of Death"--which clocks in at nine minutes long and is lauded as Hellhammer's best song in some circles--isn't too exciting. I like the beginning, but then the whole rest of the song is so repetitive. All black and death metal fans should get this to fully understand the history of the genres, but don't expect a masterpiece. Sigh...thank god Hellhammer disbanded and then formed Celtic Frost.
