FUCK ME JESUS (demo) (1991)

More infamous for its title and artwork (and banned in multiple countries as a result of both) than for its musical quality, Fuck Me Jesus is actually quite good. It has some of that raw, unproduced old-school black metal feel to it, but at the same time it's much better sounding than other stuff from this era. The demo starts off with a clip from "The Exorcist" (where Regan is masturbating with the crucifix) and goes right into "Departure from the Mortals". And for 1991, this is pretty heavy black metal. While it does resemble Mayhem's Deathcrush at times, it's really its own animal. All of these songs end up appearing on 1992's Dark Endless, but I like the rawer, more in-your-face, dirtier sound found here on the demo.

RATING:  3½ out of 5
