Good, quality black metal is what we have here. While this is nothing too fancy, it almost reminds me of Mayhem or older Immortal. I really like it, though. While the guitar playing and drumming really sound like they could be on any black metal album, the feel for the whole album is really sinister. The production is slightly muffled, and there are quotes from serial killers strewn throughout the songs. To me, these two elements add a great atmospheric quality to the music. I would rank this as one of the great gems of mid-90s black metal and one of the essential releases of the Norwegian scene. Worth tracking down to add to your black metal collection.
