Lenora Stinnett Peden, 88, of Cohutta, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, entered heaven's gate Saturday, March 30, 2002, at 1:06 a.m.
She was a woman of quiet strength and devotion to God and her family. She will be remembered for her wisdom, unconditional love and sweet spirit. She was born Sept. 23, 1913, and lived on Laurel Creek in Greenbriar, Tenn., now the Smokey Mountain National Park. She was the daughter of the late Isaac and Lucinda Gray Stinnett and the wife of the late Wade Calvin Peden.
She has lived in Cohutta since 1926, where she was a member of the First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a twin brother, Roy Russell Stinnett and brothers, Wilce, Caswell, David and Garland Stinnett, Hubert and Andrew Naugher; sister, Dicie Stinnett Cole. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Glenn and Bertie Peden, Jerry and Joy Peden, Jimmy and Judy Peden, all of Cohutta; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Sue and Tom Little and Carolyn and Bob Chase of Cohutta, JoAnn and Doyle Young of Ringgold and Dymple Hodges of Dalton; 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; sister, Rose Brooks of Cohutta, nieces and nephews.
Services are Monday at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove Chapel of Julian Peeples Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Dempsey officiating.
A special tribute will be given by grandson Mike Little. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Mike Little, Rob Chase, Terry Peden, Greg Chase, Richard Pellom and Kevin Peden.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Cohutta First Baptist Church or to the Hopewell Cemetery Fund.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 3 to 9 p.m. Julian Peeples Funeral Home, Pleasant Grove Chapel, Dalton, is in charge of arrangements.
