Mrs. Winnie Mae Evans Edwards

Mrs. Winnie Mae Evans Edwards, 79, of Tabor St., Ellijay, passed away Monday, March 3, 2003.

Mrs. Edwards was born April 22, 1923, in Gilmer County, the daughter of the late John R. and Louella Starks Evans. She was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church and was a retired textile worker having worked for Davenport Hosiery and Candlewick Yarn Co. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hoke Edwards.

She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Mack Wood, East Ellijay; grandson and wife, Scott and Dana Wood, Dallas; great-grandchildren, Alex and Kaitlyn Mae Wood; sisters, Mrs. Roma Davis, Ellijay, and Mrs. Bernice Quarles, Atlanta.

Services were held Wednesday, March 5, at 2 p.m. from the New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Junior Waddell officiating. Music was provided by the church choir.

Pallbearers were Gary Burnette, Buford Davis, Ronnie Evans, Billy Quarles, Garland Davis, James Sales, Bob Gudger, and Wayne Sluder.

Honorary pallbearers were Billy Gudger, Marvin Pritchett, and Kenneth Corbin.

Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Bernhardt Funeral Home of Ellijay was in charge of arrangements.
