Roy Rogers & Dale Evans Generation
Last year, one of my heroes died. Some may say he wasn't real. But he was
to me and my generation. He wore a white hat, sang great songs and was a true
blue "good guy". He never cursed or shot a bad guy in the back. In fact, I
don't remember the bad guys ever dying.
As an adult, I don't remember him ever being involved in
a scandel. He and his wife were together through good times and bad. He and Dale
set a standard for us. But, somewhere along the line, it all changed. Life
changed too much. The days of a theater full of kids just watching a movie
without adults there is no more. We can't trust the world anymore. Our kids
aren't allowed out of our sights. And we are poorer for it.
The attached picture was taken when I was four. The sour look was generated
by a four year old's knowledge that the kerchief was in the wrong place. But,
that was the moral standard of the 50's. I treasure the picture because it
shows a happy time. And we will never see that type of day again.
