OBITUARY
Louis de Pointe du Lac
Died by Character Assassination at 12:01 a.m. Friday, October 17th 2000 at his home in the Rue Royale, New Orleans, Louisiana, with the release of the book Merrick, by author Anne Rice.
He was beloved of millions and will be sorely missed.
Monsieur Pointe du Lac was born in France in 1766 and emigrated to Louisiana before the age of six, where his family settled two large indigo plantations just south of New Orleans.
After the death of his father, Monsieur Pointe du Lac became the master of these plantations and the head of his family. He suffered the untimely death of his brother in 1791. Upon the heels of this tragedy, and in the midst of a resultant drinking binge, he became acquainted with Lestat de Lioncourt, Marquis d'Auvergne, who gave him the Dark Gift.
In the succeeding four years he lost his mother, and fathered two daughters, Claudia and Madeleine.
In 1860, in Paris, he met Armand, who was to become his companion after the death of his daughters.
He published a book with the cooperation of Daniel Molloy in 1974, wherein he was created by author Anne Rice.
He was reunited with Lestat de Lioncourt, Gorgeous Fiend, in 1985 and was also introduced to Gabrielle de Lioncourt. Monsieur Pointe du Lac was displaced as narrator by author Anne Rice in this second volume of the Vampire Chronicles. He began a long decline at this time.
In 1988, Louis was reunited with Gabrielle de Lioncourt, Daniel Molloy and Armand and was introduced to the rest of the Coven of the Articulate: Maharet, Mekare, Khayman, Santino, Eric, Mael, Marius, Pandora, Jesse. He was underrepresented in this tome by author Anne Rice, which was difficult for him in his already weakened state as a character.
The Tale of the Body Thief, 1992, introduced Louis to David Talbot, in his vampiric form, and Mojo. He began again cohabiting with Lestat de Lioncourt, Brat Prince Extraordinaire.
In 1994, Monsieur Pointe du Lac was portrayed by Brad Pitt in the film, Interview with the Vampire. Mr. Pitt was quoted as saying, "I loved Louis."
Monsieur Pointe du Lac was preceded in death by Lestat de Lioncourt, God, in 1995 with the publication of Memnoch the Devil. Monsieur Lioncourt was also killed by character assassination at the hand of the same author, Anne Rice. Monsieur Pointe du Lac was visibly ailing by this time, as was Monsieur Armand, and some say he was also killed the same year. Monsieur Mael went missing, presumed dead.
Mademoiselle Pandora of Greece was murdered by author Anne Rice in a book entitled Pandora, published in 1998. Monsieur Pointe du Lac was missing during this period. David Talbot was visibly ailing, and possibly dead by this time.
The deaths of Monsieur Armand, Monsieur Marius and Monsieur David Talbot were confirmed in The Vampire Armand which also arrived in bookstores in 1998. Again, the murder weapon was authored by Anne Rice.
This latest death, that of Louis de Pointe du Lac, a well-loved and revered main character, has plunged his friends and family into grief, despair and mourning.
He is survived at this time by Daniel Molloy, Gabrielle de Lioncourt, Maharet, Mekare, Jesse, Khayman, Eric, Santino, and Mojo, all of whose whereabouts are unknown at this time. They are believed to be in hiding from author Anne Rice.
Anne Rice is was prosecuted in the court of public opinion and found guilty of six counts of character assassination. Her defense, that it was her alternate personality, Ava Rice, who committed these crimes against literature, was only successful in that she was also convicted of Greed in the First Degree.
Services for Monsieur Louis de Pointe du Lac, will be held at the Saint Louis Cathedral, after dusk, nightly.
Internment will be in the family tomb in Saint Louis Cemetery No. 1, before dawn, daily.
Resurrection will be in Speculative Fiction, where Monsieur Pointe du Lac will join his family members who have passed before him as well as the rest of his Coven, and of course, Mojo.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Spec Author's Fund.
