Slayers the Movie

From A.D.Vision

Tape Information...

Slayers the Movie is released by A.D.Vision, it's run time is about an hour and a half. I know that it comes in dubbed format but am unsure if its subbed, I would assume that it is. The dubbed costs the usual $19.95.

As for the Slayers (series), the first tape is a hour long, with two episodes on it. It's again released by ADV and comes both subbed and dubbed at the usual prices of $19.95 (dubbed) and $24.95 (subbed). There are two tapes so far in the series, the second being released on 1-12-99.

The Story...

Lina is of course a part of this story, but there is no Gourry and no Zelgadis, and thank god no Amelia. But since Lina's sidekicks are all gone she gets a new one...Nahga. A description of her... well let me quite from memory what the tape said, "...One is busting out all over and the other is not." If you know Lina and what she looks like then I can say that Nahga is the opposite, that includes personality too; however, she is second to eating only to Lina.

Anyway trying to make this story correlate with the 8 tapes from Software Sculptors. It appears that this story may have happens after the Rezo story...why? Lina is older now. Another point is the fact that another man involved in the story just happens to have one of the swords of light. If that isn't strange enough his last name is Gabriel, similar to Gourry's (Gabriev) . Anyway at the end, Lina does do her normal by trying to get the sword from him, how natural.

Motion Picture
Onward...we start the story off with Lina walking, soon she is jumped by a group of three bandits. She easily distributes them around the area and continues on her way. Next we find Lina eating...yes, she still has the same appetite. The bandits come back with one extra...yup Nahga Lina sets a fireball on her and then the two of them capture the bandits and begin to eat. Some conversation foillows, but is soon ended as Nahga drags Lina to a ship where they are taken to an island. The island is a tourist trap; however something strange exists on the island.

The something strange is haunting Lina's dreams, revealing each time something more about himself and the past of the island. It's a sad story, which later results in Lina's assistance in resurrecting the past and changing the future, with Nahga (somewhat).

And so it begins... again...

Slayers Series
This set doesn't exactly start at a beginning or follow up on any point from the Motion Picture. Just a new story starting all over again.

It starts this time, in a scientists lab... he is showing our bandit slayer, Lina, his proposal. Something she was willing to help in; however, after the discovery of what it is refuses. Nahga enters, and so does the stupidity. Classic Slayers at its best. Some monobolts, and fireballs, soon follow Nahga's entrance.

A month later, another meeting occurs with the old man and Lina, this time on less friendlier grounds. To combat her he has made copied ten copies. Has Miss Lina met her match, or should I say matches, you'll have to find out for yourself.

Review...

What a laugh, the Motion Picture contained as much humor as the other eight. Although they didn't spend much time working on the personalities of the characters, but they were basically stereotypical. The plot was not anything original but it did have some of it's own twists and ironies. I'll give it two flaming wings up.

As for the Series, ah... hmmm, about the same, typical Slayers. It's just as good as the original eight. The only difference is the lack of connection between episode. Each so far has been it's own story, none reflecting on the previous. Tis okay though, it doesn't matter... it's good, two flaming wings up.
