“Reigning Grace”

By John Newton

Now may the Lord reveal His face,
And teach our stammering tongues
To make His sovereign, reigning grace
The subject of our songs.

No sweeter subject can invite
A sinner's heart to sing,
Or more display the glorious right
Of our exalted king.

Grace reigns, to pardon crimson sins,
To melt the hardest hearts,
And from the work it once begins
It never more departs.

The world and Satan strive in vain
Against the chosen few;
Secured by grace's conquering reign,
They all shall conquer too.

'Twas grace that called our souls at first,
By grace thus far we're come;
And grace will help us through the worst,
And lead us safely home.

Is Justification by Faith or by Works?

Paul the Apostle wrote, "Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith
without the deeds of the law." (Romans 3:28)

James wrote, "Ye see then how that by works a man is justified,
and not by faith only. (James 2:24)

There is no contradiction in the Word of God!
How, then, are these 2 passages to be reconciled?

Though these passages may appear to be contradictory to some, they actually
complement each other. In his book,
"The Doctrine of Justification,"
Arthur W. Pink clears up the apparent difficulty in Chapter 9,
which includes his comments on
James 2:14-26

What is the Relationship of Faith
to Justification?

There is much confusion and false teaching today on the relationship of faith to
justification.
Arthur W. Pink gives an accurate, well-balanced, and Biblical
answer to the question in Chapter 8 ("Its Instrument") of his
book titled
"The Doctrine of Justification."

Fallen Man the Bondslave of Satan

What power does Satan and his demons exercise over every child of Adam's fallen race who has not been regenerated, or born again? According to the Holy Scriptures, salvation is a deliverance from the power of Satan, deliverance out of his kingdom, and into the Kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ (Colossians 1:12-13, Acts 26:18)

Deliverance Only Through the Lord Jesus Christ:

"For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil." (1 John 3:8)

"Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, He also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death He might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage." (Hebrews 2:14-15)

"Repentance toward God" (Acts 20:21; 17:30-31) is the missing note
in much modern-day evangelistic preaching. In this message, Spurgeon
defines it and urges its
absolute necessity in true conversion.

Forgiving Others

“If you can't forgive others, you have burned the bridge over which you must pass.”—The Voice of Truth Magazine

“For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” (Matthew 6:14-15)

“Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.” (Ephesians 4:31-32)

Are You Saved, or
Are You Deceived?

"Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?" (2 Corinthians 13:5)

The old spiritual put it well: "Everybody that's talkin' 'bout heaven ain't going there." How does one know for certain whether he is truly saved, or whether he has made a false profession of faith in Christ?

Do you know the Lord Jesus Christ? Do you really want to know if you are truly saved? You need only answer one question: "Is Christ truly precious to you?" Search your own heart by reading this message by C. H. Spurgeon:

The Divine Absolute

Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ said:

Heaven and earth shall pass away,
but
my words shall not pass away.
(Mark 13:31)

The Anvil of God's Word

Last eve I passed beside a blacksmith's door
And heard the anvil ring the vesper chime:
Then looking in, I saw upon the floor
Old hammers, worn with beating years of time.

How many anvils have you had, said I,
To wear and batter all these hammers so?
Just one, said he, and then, with twinkling eye,
The anvil wears the hammers out, you know.

And so, thought I, the Anvil of God's Word,
For ages skeptic blows have beat upon;
Yet though the noise of falling blows was heard,
The anvil is unharmed . . . the hammers gone.
