One of my favourite things about living in the Czech Republic is going to listen to gypsy bands and Balkan music. There is a great place called the 'Gypsy Bar' in Cesky Krumlov and yes...sometimes even live gypsy bands play there! Here is a pic of the band playing. It was a really small restaurant and the band is right beside the bar so it is a very intimate atmosphere.
Now when I listen to gypsy bands there are two things I just have to do! Drink slivovice (plum schnapps) and dance! (Okay at this particular time I had to have a smoke two which is too bad since I made it a month without smoking...but I guess it is okay to lapse every now and again when you first try to quit).
Mum and Dad! Don't worry! All those slivovices are not for me! I ordered them for the band and had them all lined up for them to have at their break. Peter thought it would be funny to pose me with them though as if they were all mine!
The more I drank the more I danced until finally the band said. "Hey you speak English, why don't you take our money tray and go collect money from the tourists"...so I did! And what fun it was! I took the tray and did little dances in front of the tables encouraging everybody to give a little donation to the band. I collected quite a bit for them that night! Here I am posing with the band after a successful night.
