THE EMBRACE

THE EMBRACE

With searching eyes
She gazes at me
Is there hope?
They say
As she approaches

Could there be a tender moment
in his arms for me?..

In her crystal eyes
The light has faded...
Love hoped for
In the past
Has dimmed their radiance

Still she steps forward...

I hold my hand out gently.
To firm a grasp may crush
What remains of her innocence

I feel the soft hesitation
As her tender fingers explore
My battle scarred palms

She gazes at me
As I pull her softly
To my heart

I wonder too
Could there be a tender place
In her arms for me

We stand and face each other
Doubt and wonder
Fade slowly under
The strength
Of a long awaited embrace
