Wachovia Bank Robbers, Born With A Tail, Savory, & 30 Day Warranty
Aaron's House (Forest, VA)

Wachovia Bank Robbers
Born With A Tail
Savory
30 Day Warranty

The rock-filled night started off in Aaron Canada's basement with the first official show of the Wachovia Bank Robbers. They played a few covers, as well as a few originals. They rocked out, making up stuff as they went along, and ending with their song, "Four Things To Stick up Your Butt" (Casey Casum is going to love this one). The band with the motto "Fuck shit up!" includes the 3-week bass playa Barry Kidd, aspiring composer/guitarist Adam Birce, hairiest drummer in Lynchburg, Daniel Sumerland, and the ever-so flexible movie worker by day/ lead singer by night, Cullen Jennings. A great night for a first show, we'll surely seeing them playing 'round town a lot more.

Next up was Born With A Tail; the dynamic duo of the brothers Brown. These two boys show that less is more, with just the basic electric guitar and drums. Showing off a few of their limitless talents, they switch instruments mid-set. Born With A Tail takes their shows professionally, and feedback from the mic didn't stop them. Rocking out hard, Justin Brown lost his glasses and had his snare-drum stand break, but still kept it together. (David, from 30 Day Warranty, was nice enough to hold the drum for the rest of the song and let Justin borrow his snare to finish playing with. And Justin's glasses were found and repaired with always handy duct tape.) An excellent live band, the stage presence they had was incredible. Their CD, Born With A Tail, doesn't prove what they can do live, though it's a really great surf-indie rock record to really get ya goin'.

More and more people kept showing up; neighbors couldn't resist and followed the noise. A basement is only so big, so the rock n roll moved outside for the next two bands. Savory set up and rocked out. They played covers like "Loser" by Three Doors Down with Alex Clark on bass, Ryan Johnson on guitar, and, Kenny Kominic as singer/drummer.

Then the shit hit the fan, if you will. The band that's [really not] too fat to stagedive, 30 Day Warranty set up all their stuff outside. Because of rainfall the previous day, it was hard to keep things steady on the wet ground, but they did, for the most part. Poor 30 Day Warranty had a lot of technical problems (thanks to good ol' PJ Sykes for helping out with all of the bands technical woes), but they really got things kicking. The crowd went bonkers, and a ton of kids (and Wachovia Band Robbers) started skanking, slam dancing, and all that crazy stuff. 30 Day was just great. There's nothing else to say other than that. They're going on a tour this summer, so be sure to go see them rock the crowd like none other.

All in all, a good night to rock. The bands did an awesome job sharing their music; thank goodness Aaron's parents let them play there. Until next time..
