Our class met twice a week. Thursdays we had in-class discussion over material we read, watched slides and movies. We also had a lab every Wednesday devoted primarily to building this website. However, we did meet one Wednesday to do an art project. Part of our grade was to paint 2 tiles related to the Holocaust.

"Barbed Hope"

The one I painted above shows that I'm not a gifted painter, but what I tried to do was paint something that expresses what goes on inside of me when the Holocaust comes to mind. I just painted a simple landscape with a blue sky and a couple clouds with the sun shining. To me these expressions of nature bring good feelings with vision and hope. Underneath are just some rolling hills (that are supposed to be green) that make me think about the awesome view particularly around our campus in southern Virginia. Barbed wire runs horizontally across the tile with no beginning or end. This is the denial and prevention of receiving any hope, vision, and beauty. It's there, but its unreachable. The picture is representative of hoplessness.
