Otsie Lorr is a large island off the east coast of Mersaim. It is in the center of a large bay created by the Sevon Peninsula. It is a rocky island, and has long been used as a prison camp for the worst of Mersaim’s criminals. The city of Sevon, at the tip of the peninsula, administers the prison. There are small guard outposts all along the shoreline as well as ships which patrol the mouth of the bay. Criminals who have been sent to Otsie Lorr have no reprieve. There is no returning from this exile. Each criminal is branded upon their forehead so as to be easily recognised in the event that he or she tries to escape. The guards along the shoreline have orders to kill any escapee. The island itself is rocky, and has a small rivulet of fresh water. Living conditions here are naturally difficult, and the convicts are expected to fend for themselves totally. They must make their own shelter, prepare their own food, and obtain their own clothing and anything else they need. Occasional barges are sent to the island with fresh provisions, and once they land, each criminal must fend for himself. The barges are then brought back to the shores of the bay. Occasionally, a priest of one of the Gods will come to the island to hear the confessions and attempt to help the inhabitants find peace with themselves. Many times they are welcomed warmly by the criminals. Occasionally, they are not. Garrisons of soldiers attend the priest for his own safety. Since Otsie Lorr is a camp for all types of criminals, men and women alike, there are occasionally children born there. These children are taken from the parents and placed with an order of priests on the main land to be raised. The children are never told of their heritage. |
