Chapter 8

I went back to the bar and sat down. AJ didn’t bother to say a word to me because he thought he would set me off. We sat and ate pretty much in silence. We took Howie’s friend back to her house and went back to the hotel. “Night Howie, thanks for inviting me along.” “No problem Cindy.” I went into my room and went to bed.

“Guys, I am going for a drive, any of you want to come along?” “AJ, its midnight. Go to bed.” Said Kevin. “I’m not tired, I’ll be back in a few, I need to clear my mind.” AJ got into his car and sped away from the hotel. Thinking about the night’s events, he completely forgot he was overseas and was driving on the wrong side of the road. He saw the lights flashing, but it was too late. He crashed into an on-coming car. His head hit the wheel and he blacked out.

“Cindy, open up, it’s Rok.” “Brian, it’s late, what’s wrong?” “Its AJ, he had an accident, he’s in the hospital.” “Oh no, is he alright?” “We don’t know yet, we are all going down to the hospital, do you want to come?” “Yeah, I’ll be right down.” I got dressed and met the others in the lobby. The ride to the hospital was very quiet. All I did was look out the window. “Cindy you dumbass. How could you have let this happen? A guy that you are totally in love with and been so mean to…” “Cindy, we’re here.” Said Howie. We walked into the hospital and a doctor came up. “Are you the friends of Mr. McLean?” “Yes we are.” Said Kevin. “Mr. McLean has a concussion and a few broken ribs. He is unconscious right now, but he should be okay.” “Can he have visitors?” asked Howie. “Yes he can.” Brian, Nick and Kevin went in first. After awhile, they came back out, they were very quiet and looked as if they were crying. Next, Howie went in. “Cindy, you should go inside and see him. Howie told us about the date…” Brian’s voice trailed off. “If you are wondering if I feel like this is my fault you are wrong. I had nothing to do with it.” I got up and went to a window. “Cindy, do you want to go and see him?” asked Howie coming from the room. “Yeah, I guess so.”

I walked into AJ’s room, hearing the beeps from all the monitors. I pulled up a chair and sat down beside the bed. I slipped my hand into AJ’s and felt a tear stream down my cheek. I could even speak, I just sat there crying and blaming myself for this whole mess. “This is all my fault.” I thought. “If I had just told you how I felt, everything would be alright. The truth is, AJ, I love you. With all of my heart and soul.” All of a sudden, AJ’s hand tightened around mine, “Cindy, I love you too.” “AJ, you are awake, but how did you?” “Shh, I know, I saw it in your eyes, from the first time we met, I knew that we would be together.” I smiled.

AJ was in the hospital for 3 days and was unable to perform for 2 weeks. During the time that we spent together, I realized what was meant when people say that you have a soulmate. Everyone has one, you just have to expect the unexpected. As for AJ and myself, we dated for 2 years and on Christmas he proposed to me. We now live in Florida with 2 beautiful baby boys.
