The Lucet

Lucet Braiding
Variations on a Renaissance Cord

The Lucet is a simple tool used for making cords and drawstrings. The basic lucet cord uses a single thread to make a square braid. This unique tool dates back to the Viking era, and this little implement was in common use in Europe from at least the 16th century until the advent of cheap, machine-made cords in the 1830's. This book provides instruction is single thread cords, multiple thread cords and beaded cords as well as instructions for left-handed folks.
