The car was taken off the road in '99 for a full strip down and rebuild. But as the car was stripped, It was going to be more work to repair, so rather than spend a fortune in repair/restoration I started the search to find a healthier donor car to swap all the parts onto. After lots of searching I found one very local, but it was not a GTE so it needed to be stripped to accept the parts from the original GTE car but with a few minor modifications.

Another of the interior from the rear.
It doesn't look so bad from a distance with all the carpets and side panels removed!
The front of the car with all the interior and carpets removed.
With the outer wings off, the enormity of the welding required started to add up, and also the pound signs in what it might cost to get it into a solid bodyshell.
With its 2.0 16v engine out we could really see what was needed, and it was a lot.
Another picture of the stripped engine bay with most of the ancilleries removed.
The engine bay with a lot of holes in the inner wings.
The shell with all the parts that could be taken off were. The shell was soon to be sent to a salvage yard and crushed.
The most I have ever stripped a Mk1 Astra!. Audi alloys were used for a rolling chassis and extra's off my brothers old 89 VW Jetta.
Another picture of the stripped shell ready to go into the scrapyard with Seph giving me a helping hand.
