Dana 44 on front by Avalanche Engineering

$$ As polite as I can say this..... don't ask how much this cost. $$

January of 2000, I started looking for someone that was capable of doing a front end conversion.  March 1, I thought I would be going to Indiana to have this work done.  Six weeks later I was unable to talk to the guy and get any details worked out.  Giving up on him, it wasn't until the middle of May that I spoke with Avalanche Engineering.  They were immediately responsive and told me they could do this.  We settled on August 1st(2000) as the date I would drop my truck off.  Once they had my truck, they made measurements and placed the Dana44 order with Dynatrac.  Once the axle arrived, many weeks later, they were able to start.

The few pictures I have of the build process:

10/26/00 - Received the following email and picture:
"Things are approximately 50% done.  Unfortunately Sway-A-Way has not sent the coilovers yet.  After spending a considerable amount of time on the phone with them I think we will see the stuff by the beginning of next week.  Things should go fairly quick from there."

DANA 44 BY DYNATRAC

  • 73-77 K-10 or Blazer

  • Disk brakes

  • 5.143 R&P

  • 30 spline 3/4 ton heavy duty axle shaft assembly with Spicer axle joints

  • ARB Air-locker

  • 6 Lug Pattern

  • Warn Hubs

  • Custom machined heavy duty nodular iron housing

Things get dirty quick and the rust wastes no time!

Steering stabilizer was added too.  I held the ARB air line down with zip-ties.  When the
weather warms up, I'll go back and do a better job!

By connecting the two shock hoops, it prevents one from flexing inwards.
