FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  1. What is hand building?
Hand building is a method of creating pottery that does not entail the use of the potter's wheel. Instead, pieces are cut and fit together using clay slip to hold the parts together. This method is ideal for making mugs, ornaments, platters, and many other items. Beginners especially enjoy this method because success does not depend on the sensitive skills that the potter's wheel requires.
  2. What is slip?
Slip is a substance that is made of clay and water. The consistency can be from creamy to watery depending on its purpose and is used for casting molds, to cement together pieces of clay, or as a coating.
