THE 5 YEAR PILL
On September 24th, 2001, which was 3 weeks after finishing my chemotherapy treatments, I began taking Nolvadex Tamoxifen Citrate 20 mg. twice a day. Nolvadex is a horomone blocker and my cancerous tumor was fed by horomones. I will be taking this pill every day and every night for 5 years.
The only side-effect I had from taking Nolvadex was having a few hot flashes and night sweats. So to counter-act that side-effect, my oncologist gave me Megestrol 20 mg., which was another pill to take along with the Nolvadex. I took 2 of those per day and it stopped the side-effects. After taking Megestrol for 8 months, my oncologist advised that I could try and stop taking it, now that the Nolvadex was built up in my system. So I stopped taking the Megestrol in May of 2002 and the hot flashes and night sweats have not returned!
