Permission slip

GSCNC Sing-a-long

We have finally been contacted about the sing-along and it looks like we the girls that signed up in the fall – Mallary, Corianne, Lucy, Tracy and Amy) will be doing some hospitality (water station, metro, or the “lost” tent). The date again is Saturday June 8 near the Washington Monument and I have asked for first thing in the morning. If any of these girls have conflicts now I need to know about them soon (by April 12). On the other side if any of the other girls are interested in working Mrs. Davis needs to know by April 12.  At that time the registration will be mailed in.

QSP

It is that time of year again to renew or start magazine subscriptions and at the same time help fund improvements to Girl Scout camps. If you would like a packet let Mrs. Davis know and she will get it to you PROMPTLY. All orders must be returned to Mrs. Davis by May 10.

Women's Studies Program Seminar at George Mason University

Louise Armitage has made arrangements for staff from the Women's Studies Program at George Mason University to offer a seminar to senior girl scouts on Tuesday, April 23, 2002, from about 6:00 p.m - 7:30 p.m.  The seminar includes viewing a film called "Killing Me Softly" that was produced to reveal the exploitation of women/girls in marketing (showing glorification of really skinny women to violence against women) to be followed by a discussion.  She was really impressed by this movie last year and thought it would be good for girls to appreciate how they can be manipulated in advertising and in real life.  It is pretty graphic.  There is no cost. If you are interested in participating in this along with a parent or if you have questions please contact Louise at tarmitag@erols.com as soon as possible.

Early Bird Registration

Mrs. Davis will be getting the registration forms for the 2002-03 scout year at the May 14 Service Unit meeting. They will be mailed to everyone at that time and must be returned to by May 31. So you should start thinking about your plans for next year. This is just a heads up. If you have any issues or concerns please don’t hesitate to let Mrs. Davis or Mrs. Irvin know.

Help for a Bronze Project

Why not look thru your bookcase and weed out some of those children’s books that are in good shape but you no longer need.  Erin Wardlaw, a junior girl scout, is collecting children’s books for “The Reading Connection”, which is an organization that provides volunteers to read to children in shelters. They especially need board books (hard covers), multicultural books and sports theme books

Individual Accounts

Hopefully everyone who had money in their individual troop account from cookies/fundraisers got an email giving the current balance. This went out in the last few days. If you didn’t let Mrs. Davis know immediately.
