Meeting Tonight

The meeting will be a rehearsal for the Ellipse sing this Wednesday. Everyone is invited however if you are scheduled to sing it is mandatory. The weather for Wednesday is not looking too good at the present: wet snow at night. Snow or no snow it will be cold. All girls must dress in layers with warm shoes (boots are better than sneakers), a hat (for when we aren’t wearing the bandanas), and gloves. If for some reason you can’t make it Wednesday let Mrs. Davis know as soon as possible as we can then consolidate into one vehicle.  I know the parents will be volunteering tonight to help transport us. We have to be at the ellipse not later than 7:30, so the latest departure from Waples would be 6:30.

Next Meeting Monday, January 8

No agenda has been planned yet but I am sure it will be an exciting meeting. In January we also plan to finish up the Creative Cooking IP by visiting a kitchen store and learning about kitchen gadgets. There may be a meeting on January 22 but it is tentative as Mrs. Davis will be out of town.

Inauguration

Hard to believe the election isn’t over yet but there will be an inauguration.  So far I have received payment for the windbreaker (and pin and patch which are optional) from Lauren, Lucy, Katherine (2), Amy (2), and Mallary. The money is due NOT LATER THAN December 19. Please return the order form with your check.

Cookies

Remember cookie sales start Friday, January 5. The initial order form is due to Mrs. Sullivan not later than January 22. If this is not a meeting date then make sure you call her and set up a time to bring the money to her house.

Cabana

I know I haven’t given any updates lately but I haven’t heard anything from them. I figured the program fee, which will be over $400.00, is not something anyone wants to pay at this gift giving time of year.  Right now the flights are still running over $500.00 so I will keep watching. The travel agent feels they will drop after the new year. I will be working on notebooks for each girl and we will start having Cabana meetings after the first of the year. We have a lot of planning to do.

Dogwood Elementary

TOGA put out this recommendation: “To help Dogwood Elementary recoup some of its loses, we could designate it as our Bonus Card school if we have a Giant bonus card. It's SO EASY! Go to www.giantfood.com and pick Bonus Card information. You will need your card number to complete the transaction. Follow the directions and your donation will be counted for Dogwood School. In the event that you want to designate more than one school, you can pick up to three.” Safeway may offer more than one school. If you have any neighbors who may not have registered for the program, why not recommend they help Dogwood in this painless way.

Travel Task Force

Just in case you missed this message I sent out I am repeating it. Though the deadline has passed I am sure if you are still interested you can join. But call now just to be sure. Call even if you just want to find out what this is about. If you don’t want to venture out alone maybe someone else in the troop might also be interested but wants company.

At direction of GSUSA, GSCNC is convening a task force to address Cadette/Senior GS wishing to travel to World Centers if their troop is NOT going.  (Troop1499 most likely will NOT make plans to go to another center.) The idea is to assemble a "Troop" of interested girls for the express purpose of traveling to a world center(s) (to be chosen by group) in 18months.  Approx 18 mo is the time to make appropriate plans and raise the money.  GS would continue in their regular troops...but would occasionally meet with the new "travel troop." The POC is Betty Schwoebel ext 236 at GSCNC by Dec 8.

Creative Cooking

This IP is almost finished. So far we as a troop have done the pasta, the cookie test, the chocolate box and gleaning. If you did all these (Amy, Katherine, Lucy and Corianne), then you only need one more item of your choice.  Tracy, Alex, Gina, and Lauren need the choice item and the service project. Mallary and Stephanie need two choice items and the service project. Like I said in the first paragraph the troop is planning a kitchen tour so that would be one choice item that everyone needs.

Senior Challenge

Still no location but the tentative times are 9 – 1, February 17. Though you may want to pencil this on your calendar.
