GSUSA Opportunity

We realize this is very short notice, but this is a wonderful opportunity we would like to offer to as many Senior Girl Scouts (those who will be between the ages of 15 and 17 as of January 2003) as possible.  Please pass this along to Senior Girl Scouts as quickly as possible.  This is a time sensitive opportunity for girls, so everyone's cooperation is needed.

Calling all Senior Girl Scouts, GSUSA is forming a National Advisory Committee to interact directly with the GSUSA national staff and National Board.  Members of the Advisory Committee will:

 *    identify program topics and issues they would like to see addressed
 *    guide plans for national or regional events and travel experiences
 *    provide input on the selection process for various scholarships and
awards
*    review and contribute to new resources
*    conduct informal research with their peers on issues related to their
lives

The Advisory Committee will meet two times a year with GSUSA staff and once a year with the National Board.  Meeting sites will be determined at a later date.  Travel expenses and all meeting-related costs will be covered by GSUSA. Each council is permitted to forward one nomination to GSUSA.  GSCNC will establish a committee to select one girl's nomination to be forwarded to GSUSA.  GSUSA will make the final selection of 9-14 girls from around the country.

To apply, you must send the items listed below to The Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital, 4301 Connecticut Ave. NW, Washington DC 20008 Attention: Program Department.  Completed applications must be received by 5:00 PM on December 30, 2002.  A committee will select the top 10 nominees. These nominees will be notified by January 3, 2003 and must be available to come to the GSCNC office for an interview on January 4, 2003.
 Items to send:

*    Completed application Cover form and pages 2 and 3 (Be sure application
is complete and signed by girl and parent or guardian.
*    Two (2) reference forms completed by adults who are not related to you.
One should be from an adult from your school.  (Be sure to include council
address and deadline date on forms your give to these people and ask that
they be mailed directly to GSCNC.
*    Photo of you in action doing something you enjoy or care about

Incomplete applications will not be considered. Questions should be directed to Diane Bayless, Manager of Program Services, 202-237-1670 ext. 211 or dbayless@gscnc.org
