Next Meeting
There are no plans for a meeting at this time. We
will have at least one more before the year is out. For those that need
leadership hours you are welcome to plan and carry out a meeting.
Upcoming Events
After
all those email this is the news I know you have been waiting for. The following
are the events that are being planned. The first 2 are through GSCNC so I am
awaiting word whether or not we are accepted. If accepted I will collect the fee
at that time.
1) Kayaking on the Pohick Saturday, June 1,
cost $40.00 per person. If approved will need an adult who wants to kayak to go.
Reservation made for Alex, Amy, Steph, Tracy, Lucy, Katherine and Corianne plus
2 adults
2) Teen Core Camp May 17 19 at Camp Coles Trip cost $45.00 per person. Reservation made for Mallary, Amy, Lucy, Steph, Corianne and Lauren plus Mrs. Nathanson and Mrs. Davis
3) Dollars & Sense IPP Saturday, March
23. Reservation made for Amy, Lauren, Alex, Corianne & Lucy

Lucy completed the
requirements for the Leadership pin. If you are still working on this there is a
suggestion above or think of any leadership you are doing outside of girl
scouts.
GS Mini Shop
The shop in
Centreville will open for spring on March 4. .
On Your Honor Ceremony
For everyone that
turns in their Silver Trefoil hours or Gold Award completion report by April 1
will be invited to this GSCNC ceremony May 18. Katherine will be invited since
she finished last summer.
Cookies 2002
Hopefully you are
getting cookie orders filled and money to Mrs. Sullivan. All money must
be to her by March 22.

Everyone should have
received a copy by now. On page 3 there are three opportunities to earn Council
hours and on page 4 opportunities for Federal hours.
On page 15 they list a new IPP should we look into the requirements?
On page 18 is some information on C0ongressional Aide and a reminder that the
dealine to have all the paperwork into GSCNC is May 1 at 5PM (no exceptions).
New Service Unit
Next
year we will continue to have the number 56-1 but instead of being with Lees
Corner and Navy we will be with Crossfields. This doesnt really affect us
much as Teen Scouts but it might. Just keep this information stored somewhere in
the rest of the stuff in your brain.
. GS Science & Engineering Career Symposium 2002
On March 23 (yes a
very busy day for GS activities) there will be a symposium from 9 noon at
the Hyatt Regency Reston. The cost is $7.00 and girls are welcome to go on their
own. Some renowned women scientists and engineers will be on had to answer
questions about their fields or tips for applying to college.
Sing a Long
For those that signed
up and are wondering what they will be doing, have no fear. Assignments will be
sent to us in March. Just keep the date of June 8 on your calendar.
The ARK Project
The ARK project
partners are the National Audubon Society, GSUSA and the US Fish and Wildlife
Service. This partnership has enabled GSCNC to develop the Adopt a Refuge
program with the Fairfax Audubon Society and the USFWS at Occoquan Bay Refuge in
Woodbridge, VA. Once a US Army base, migratory birds, native animals and plants
are being encouraged to return. GSCNC has a day each month (March May) where
girls can work with members of the Fairfax Audubon Society on requirements for
IPPS (Wildlife, Eco-Action Plant Life). To find out more or to register can

Service Opportunities with the Reston Association
March 16-
Community Workday 9:30 a.m. to 11:30- Come for an hour or more, get
some outdoor exercise, and help your environment. Projects include
planting, gardening, train maintenance and stream restoration. Tools and
instructions will be provided. 10 volunteers needed. Minimum age 16
without supervision
March 28- Reston Association Board meeting 6:30 to 10:00- 2 people needed to
assist Comcast Cable record our meeting for broadcast the following day on
Comcast local channel 28. This is a great opportunity to get hands on
experience in the TV. business! Minimum age 14.
April 6- 14th Annual Potomac Watershed Cleanup- Come clean up Snakeden Branch at
the same time as people all over the tri state area will be cleaning other
Potomac tributaries. Bring gloves, be prepared to get muddy. Family and
group friendly.
April 17- Creating an Eco-friendly Yard & Community- Learn all about
recycling, composting, etc. while helping with registration, refreshments and
more. 6 people needed minimum age 15.
April 20- Bicycle Safety Rodeo-Noon to 4:30 Help children earn their
bicycle license and learn about bicycle safety by guiding them through eight
safety stations. 10 volunteers needed.

May 4- International Migratory Bird Day- 12:30 to 5:30 Help us welcome the
return of our migratory birds through a variety of fun filled and educational
activities. Volunteers will assist with games, crafts, hands on
activities, displays and presentations. 16 volunteers needed.
Minimum age 14 without supervision.
