Meeting Monday, March 5

Since I didn’t hear from anyone these are the Cabana committee assignments.

Service project – Katherine
Songs – Stephanie
Culture – Gina and Alex (be prepared April 4)
Swaps – Corianne
Skit –Amy
WAGGS/Cabana – Lucy

Everyone but culture is expected to have proposals we can work on at this meeting.

Next Try-it Workshop Meeting Monday, March 12

Girls should come prepared to discuss their assignments. The event is April 28 at Pender Methodist Church.

Next Troop (everyone) Meeting is April 5

The Court of Awards will be Monday, April 5 for the whole troop. We will also take time to complete the water safety, which will complete the Pole. Paddle and Role IP for all those who went kayaking last June.

Don’t forget to submit any paperwork for IPs or such (leadership, Challenge, etc.) by Monday March 4 (this is an extension) for this Court of Awards. Even if you went to the Challenge Workshop and have finished steps 4 & 5, you must turn in the form from your notebook.

Service Hours Opportunities

There is a Cookie Depot in Herndon (at the Food Lion near Rachel Carson). The hours are Wed., Thurs. & Fri from 5-30 – 8:30 pm, Sat 9 – 2, and sun 12 – 4. If interested contact Gwen at Gshadows9@aol.com.

Senior Challenge

Remember that a Career notebook has to be assembled and completed (for data up to now), and a picture/collage made of your “vision”. The notebook has no set structure but it has to be assembled in some kind of order that you will find useful and be able to readily refer to.

Gold Award Workshop

There may still be spaces available for the March 10 workshop (see last newsletter). If interested log on to the GSCNC.website (www.GSCNC.org) ASAP.  By the way we as a troop have conducted all the prerequisites that can be done as a troop.  The rest is up to you and as you finish the Career Exploration, Challenge, Leadership or IPs just make sure you submit the paperwork to Mrs. Davis.

Cookies

Remember cookie booth sales the next two Saturdays. Also money is due to Mrs. Sullivan the end of March.

Silver Trefoil

Remember that you can only start to work on this award if you completed the form from Kalideoscope and turned it into Mrs. Davis. If you aren’t sure I put a copy of all the forms I had into individual girl’s notebooks under the tab Silver Trefoil. If you have not filled in a form and are now interested just get the form completed. You cannot count any work completed prior to submission of the form.

Self Defense IP

For all the girls that attended they are just a service project away from completing it. I assume you will work on this individually unless I get a recommendation for a group project. If we teach self defense to a younger troop we will need a troop.

Program Aide Training

There will be Core Training on Friday, April 6 from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm at the Hiddenbrook Clubhouse, 1508 Sadlers Weels, Herndon, Va. The cost is $5.00 per scout and participants are to bring their own lunch. Snacks will be provided. If interested call Mrs. Carol Frost at 703 318-9440.

End of the Year Troop Activity

There was no interest in Whitewater Rafting. Any recommendations. The kayaking last year was fun so maybe something along those lines. It has to be simple or we need a parent volunteer to coordinate.
