Early Bird Registration

Mrs. Davis mailed or delivered registration forms to everyone. She would like them back as soon as possible but not later than June 1 with a check to the troop for $7.00 per person registered. DO NOT WRITE ON THE BACK OR IN THE GREEN/BLUE SPACES. If you are undecided, then hold your form(s) over the summer and bring it (them) to the first meeting in September. If you know you will not be returning just let Mrs. Davis know as soon as possible.

Kayaking

I MUST have a parent come to Waples Mill to sign the release form before we leave. If this isn’t possible, then the parent needs to contact Mrs. Davis ahead of time to get the form so the scout can bring it with her on June 1. For the families going they can take care of it either at Waples or at the site.

The following is a list to bring (provided by Atlantic Kayaking):

h    Drinking Water

h    Optional: Binoculars, camera (that can get wet), nature books

h    Insect repellent

h    Shoes you don’t mind getting wet (aqua shoes good)

h    Retaining strap for glasses

h    Change of clothes and a towel

h    Hat or visor

h    Swimsuit under shorts if desired

h    Rain gear if rain is expected

h    Snack

We will leave Waples promptly at 4:45 so if you are late you will have to get there on your own.  If the weather is bad look for an email or call Mrs. Davis after 12 noon.

GSCNC Sing-a-long Special Events

Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Tatariw, Corianne, Tracy and Amy will help lost singers. We are registered and will each receive a songbook and patch. Our shift is 10 – 12 so we need to be at the Metro by 9:00 am.  The date again is Saturday June 8 near the Washington Monument and we will meet at the Tatariw’s at 8:30 am and go to the Metro in one car. Since the actual sing-a-long is 1:30 – 4 we will stay around for at least part of it.

On the "weekend events" page at www.gssing.org ,you will find two fun evening activities for Girl Scouts.

h    The Washington Mystics (WNBA Team) have a "Girl Scout Night" game scheduled for Friday, June 7th 7:00 pm at the MCI Center.  It is metro close and will be a great chance to see the Mystics players who will be singing on
Saturday.

h    On Saturday night . . continue singing at the DC United Soccer game at
7:30pm at RFK Stadium -- also metro close.  Be part of the opening ceremony
for the game!  It will complete you weekend!  (however they pull up that
page)

Order you tickets NOW either on-line or by telephone.  They are going fast!
These events will add to your great Sing-Along weekend.

GSCNC Sing-a-long Participants

We (Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Tatariw, Corianne, Tracy and Amy) have been switched from the Lost Singer Tent to the Information Tents where we will pass out water bottles and pom-poms. The times are now 12 – 2 so we need to leave Waples by 10:30. Tracy if it is closer go to the Tatariw’s (if it is alright with them) and they can bring you; just remember your permission slip.

I will be getting our orange shirts in the mail and will get them out to you. Also remember to bring your songbook, hat/visor, sunscreen, water bottle and anything else I may have forgotten.

Theater Arts Workshop Nov 16 - 17

The following girls are signed up to participate: Amy, Katherine, Tracy, Lucy, Lauren and Alex. More details at the end of this newsletter. The workshop is full at this point. Girls make sure you block out these dates on your calendar.

TTG

You will be getting your TTG’s shortly. Of particular note is the fact there will be a Gold Award Panel in July. Review page 6 before submitting your award. AND remember don’t start working on your project till you get an okay from GSCNC.

Since Mrs. Davis needs to sign off on your paperwork you need to know that she will be out of town: June 30 – Jul6 6 (tentative at this time) and July 14 – August 4 (for sure).

Gold Award Funding

Funding is always and issue. The Gold Award Panel will want details on how you will fund your project. The organization you are working with may be able to fund it which is where you should look first. If you are going to solicit businesses you must submit a sample letter you will send along with your Gold Award submission. If you still need funding Mrs. Davis will help you tap other sources.

International Hours

If you want to work at the International Children’s Festival at Wolftrap September 14 – 15 go to the following website: www.allnva.com/local/acfc/icf.html. Just make sure you are assigned to an activity that deals with customs of another country. If you would rather do something on your own. you can organize an international activity and do it at the Association Event on September 29 (see last newsletter for details on that event).

Juliette Low Birthplace Circle of Friends

The troop got a nice thank you for our donation to “Dollars to Daisies”.

Service Unit Next Year

We will be paired with Crossfield Elementary (not that it matters much for older girls) and our number will remain 56-1.

Cookie Awards

They will be delivered along with anything else, including TTG, that Mrs. Davis still has for you. Most will be delivered on June 1 (kayaking).

End of Year Event

Not one recommendation received so I assume everyone is just too busy. Therefore, kayaking will be that last organized event for this year. Attached is an interest form which I would like each of you to complete and return by June 17 so Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Irvin can determine in what direction we are going next year. WE WANT TO HEAR FROM EVERYONE AND PARENTS INPUT IS WELCOME! Also we need to know if we need to reserve space at Waples Mill. No use taking space away from someone if we aren’t going to use it. See you in September!
