Meeting Monday November 13

This meeting will be dedicated to:

1)        1) Learning to gift-wrap which is especially important for anyone doing the Zany Brainy fundraiser. Girls will also find it useful for birthdays or holidays when gifts are exchanged.

2)     2) Evaluating the Savannah trip and doing the last item needed for the “Savannah IP”. Remember this IP cannot count for the Gold Award. If you miss this meeting Mrs. Davis will give you the sheet so you can complete the item on your own.

3)     3) Start to learn the two songs for the Ellipse singing. We must sing White Coral Bells and We Change the World. The group leader would like to have a soloist or small group commit to singing the two verses of We Change the World. Think about it and let me know Monday after we try the song.

Next Meeting Monday, November 27 - CHOCOLATE

Mrs. Pressler is coming so be there on time as she has a lot for us to do.

Savannah

Like I said above we will have the girls evaluate the trip this Monday night so think about the things that were good and bad. I have attached some pictures for everyone’s amusement.

*Pictures Coming Soon*

Results of the Intent Form

Just so I am sure of the answers to the intent form these are the activities and the names of the scouts who want to participate. If there is an error let Mrs. Davis know as soon as possible.

1)    Zany Brainy Fundraiser – Stephanie, Amy, Tracy, Alex, and Lucy with Gina, Katherine, Corianne and Lauren as maybes.

2)     Ellipse Sing – Amy, Tracy, Katherine, Lucy, Corianne, and Lauren. Need to confirm this number by the November 13 meeting as I have to send in the fee of $2.00 per girl by the next day. The troop will pay the fee so no need to bring $2.00.

3)     Lazy Susan Dinner Theater (everyone indicated that their mother wanted to come) – Amy, Tracy, Gina, Katherine, Lucy, Corianne, and Lauren

4)     Inauguration - Everyone

5)     Self Defense – Everyone

6)     Cabana – Stephanie, Amy, Alex, Gina, Katherine, Corianne, and Lucy

Again PLEASE let me know immediately if there is an error above.

Lazy Susan Dinner Theater

We will be attending the matinee of Agatha Christie’s Mousetrap on Sunday, January 7. The doors open at 1:30 and the buffet is served from 2 – 3:00. the show starts and 3:30 and should be finished by 6:00 at the latest. The cost is $28.00 per person (which includes gratuity). The permission slip and money is due (check made out to Troop 1499) to Mrs. Davis by Monday, November 27 (the next meeting)  I know the last newsletter I said the money was due November 13 but I didn’t get the permission slip out in time.

Gold Award

While in Savannah some of the girls started thinking about Gold Award projects. That is GREAT! However, I want to warn the girls that the projects MUST BE APPROVED by GSCNC prior to doing ANY work on the project. I encourage the girls to think about projects so when they go to the Gold Award Workshop (dates will be promulgated soon) they can discuss their idea with the board member in attendance. The board member should be able to say what needs to be done to make it a viable project or help think of a new project. Once you get an idea for a project that is interesting it might make the prerequisites easier to do. Okay I hope it makes them easier!!!!!!

Now the Gold Award Workshop is when a Gold Award Panel member comes to talk about the project (how it is approved by GSCNC, projects that are viable, etc.). A scout can attend the workshop when she has completed at least 2 of the 4 (Career Pin, Senior Challenge, Leadership Pin and 4 IPs) prerequisites. TOGA is looking at a workshop in the next few weeks and one in March.

. Permission Slips

There will be permission slips for the Lazy Susan Dinner Theater and the Ellipse sing at the meeting. We tried to put them on the web page but it didn't work. Hopefully, we can work this out for future permission slips.

Cabana

At the last meeting we polled girls to find out what dates they would prefer. Tentatively the choices are July 12 – 26 or July 15 – 28.  These dates allow for July 16 – 24 at Cabana and 3 days at Tecalli (a GS hotel in Mexico City).  From Mexico City we go sightseeing to the Floating Gardens, pyramids, the Folklore Ballet (Spanish dancing vice ballet as we know it), and more. We are getting inputs from other troops that have been recently. What we heard was due to other travel and Camp Ashgrove the preference is July 15 – 28.  That is the way we are planning unless the majority of the group (listed on the first page) convinces us to switch to the earlier dates. By the beginning of December you will hear more details.
