This is the pumpkin carving meeting and
social time. Girls are to bring their own pumpkin, carving utensils and
newspaper. If you have a design in mind bring it (the design) drawn on paper or
already drawn on the pumpkin. That makes it easier not to make mistakes when one
is talking and carving. Mrs. Tatariw has volunteered to bring refreshments to
celebrate Daisy’s birthday.
Congratulations
to Katherine Irvin for earning her Silver Trefoil. For the International hours
she helped a friend “entertain” some Irish students this summer and she was
a Congressional Aide in August.
Now
Mrs. Davis was not at the last troop meeting due to a conflict she was at the
GSCNC Silver Trefoil meeting to find out why some hours count and others
don’t. Well some headway was made
in regards to hours of special interest to some of our girls:
Ø
Girls who face painted flags at Wolf Traps Children Festival can
count them since they were painting international flags (and learned something
about flags from doing that) Include words to that affect in the write-up.
Ø
The service hours for Cabana count (I figure 5 hours). The reason
we can count them (and this must be in the write-up) is the planning was done at
our meetings and the execution was in Mexico.
If
any girls have questions about what hours count and what don’t let Mrs. Davis
know and she will let you know or find out at her next Silver Trefoil meeting in
February.
The following is form the
Reston Community Center and girls can sign up individually.
“October
24-26- Halloween Trail. Help the Nature Center come alive at night
by providing another exciting night walk for our kids!”
Call
Laris at 703-435-7986 if you are interested. As this is not a scout event (but
can be used for scout hours - local government or service) you might have a
friend that would like to do it with you.
Attached is a sheet each girl needs to fill out and return by the October 29 meeting so we can get a better idea of what our definite plans are for the upcoming few months. Some require payment now so we can register (payment due at registration). The events are:
Ø Swordsmen's Rendezvous at Gadsby’s Tavern, Alexandria from 11am-4pm (45 minute tours) Living history experts lead lively discussions and demonstrations on 11th century swordplay. Offered Sat.November 3rd and Sat., February 2nd. Registration closed last Friday, October 12. If she can’t get the group in the November 3 session she will open it back up for registration for the February session. The troop will pay the admission fee since it is only $2.00.
Ø December 1 Worldgate Lock-in. The first meeting one person said she was interested and at the second meeting 6 more said they were interested. Since we have to pay when we register this month the fee of $35.00 is due now.
Ø January (probably January 6) is the Lazy Susan Dinner Theater and cost will be about $30.00 per person (maybe a little less). This will be due later.
Ø January 25 – 26 Senior Retreat 2002 at Rockwood Manor in Potomac, MD. See page 11 of TTG for details. The $40.00 fee is due now so we can register.
Ø Teen Labor Education Day March 23 is an excellent opportunity to learn something for your government course. No payment due now but we want to see if there is interest.
I am sure more events will come along but since payment is needed now to lock in some of the events we felt it was also a good time to let you know about other opportunities and get an idea of interest. If there isn’t sufficient interest in an event, any payment will be returned or put into the girl’s account for a later trip. All registration is closed on the due date so don’t wait or you might miss it. All checks are made out to Troop 1499. I would like very girl to return the form even if you have no interest in any of the events as even that is important to the leaders.

There is a lot of interesting “stuff” in this issue. Also there are some Gold Projects to review.
Gold
Award Form Online
The
form to submit your project proposal is on line at http://www.gscnc.org/pubs
and click on Going for the Gold. This sure makes the process easier. Submissions
must be in by the first of the month to be considered for by that month’s
panel. The panel schedule is on the back of TTG.
