Next Meeting Monday, October 30

The meeting will be the final one before Savannah so train tickets will be distributed and last minute paperwork needs to be signed by parents. Therefore, at least one parent needs to attend this meeting. We will also combine this meeting with a Juliette Low birthday celebration/rededication ceremony so girls should wear their vest. Since the meeting will probably not last the full 9- minutes Mrs. Davis will be available to talk to any scout or parent concerning the Gold Award and progress toward.

Mandatory Meeting October 22 for Career Fair

There will be a MANDATORY meeting at 7:00 at Mrs. Cooper’s house at 13513 Virginia Willow Drive (where we had the first meeting). Also by October 19 you MUST submit a name of someone who would be willing to speak. I would like everyone to email Kendall (PaJaMee@aol.com) and Mrs. Davis (davwillowg@aol.com) their speaker’s name and profession. So far Kendall has given me speaker names for Amy and Alex. If you have decided not to participate with this event let Mrs. Davis know that.

Also as far as committee jobs, Mrs. Cooper and Mrs. Davis are meeting to relook at distribution as we realized there is a problem. You will be able to choose jobs at the October 22 meeting.  If you have already completed a committee responsibility you will still have a job at the Fair on November 12.

Fundraiser at Zany Brainy

Mrs. Sullivan has secured some gift-wrapping opportunities for us:

November 24, 25, & 26 from 10 am–4 pm & 4 pm-10 pm

December 16 & 17 (same times as above)

Zany Brainy requires 2 volunteers per shift, but due to the heavy shopping days they recommend 4. If your daughter wants to participate a parent may be required to be there for her entire shift. We would have a gift-wrapping workshop at the November 13 meeting.

 Council Hours for Silver Trefoil

Council needs help with some filing in the Registration Department on October 21 & 28 and November 4 (Savannah) & 11. The girls are needed from 10 am – 4 pm and would get pizza and sodas. Girls can be dropped off and an adult does not have to stay, as staff members will be supervising. If you are interested contact Lucy Coley at 202 237-1670 ext 295 or lcoley@gscnc.org.

December singing on the Ellipse

The “Girl Scouts of Oakton” (we do meet in Oakton) were selected to sing at the National Christmas Tree on Wednesday, December 13 from 8 – 8:30 pm (hope it isn’t too cold). There is one Brownie, 3 Junior, and Cadette and 1 Senior (us) participating.  Look at your calendars and we will be firming up plans soon. The songs we will sing are not religious. There will be a practice prior to the event.

SHARE

By now, in response to my last email, you have all turned in your SHARE envelope. Well if you haven’t please do so by the next meeting. We want to have 100% participation and that means all envelopes were returned. They are not opened locally so we have no idea if you enclose a check or not. If you lost your envelope please call Betty Ann Debner at  703 476-0226. Thanks!!!!

Inauguration

This TTG does have a form for the inauguration but it is a troop form. A form for each girl to fill out will be distributed at the October 16 meeting. Fill this out if you are interested. Even if we are picked to participate it can be cancelled depending on the Secret Service, the new President’s staff, etc. So let’s just hope we are lucky.

Ice Cream Social

We got a lot of great feedback from the event. One leader and her Daisy came up to Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Irvin at the Service Unit meeting. The Daisy won the Mexican dinner and she was so proud of the fact that she took her family out to dinner. While we heard the story the Daisy had a BIG smile on her face. Apparently two reasons we didn’t have more participants were:1) the holiday weekend and 2) it was too early in the scout year for some troop to get organized enough to meet our deadline.  We have had requests to repeat the event but that would depend on some parents organizing it. There are still some checks outstanding and clarification on hours so the girl’s accounts do not reflect their profits yet.

Thinking Day Leadership Opportunities

There is an attachment to this newsletter with jobs available with Thinking Day. However, it will be on the same day that TOGA is offering Self Defense. If you are interested in Thinking Day and the Self Defense you could volunteer for a job not requiring you to attend the actual event.

Intent Form

Please fill in the intent form and bring it to the October 16 meeting or mail/email it back to Mrs. Davis by October 23. If form is not returned it is assumed your scout in NOT interested in any activity.
