Next Meeting Monday October 16

This meeting will be active as we will make the Savannah service project, a MANDATORY requirement for going to Savannah. In addition we will review the itinerary and packing list.  If you can’t attend you must arrange to do a project on your own. Any project you pick must be approved by Mrs. Tatriw or Mrs. Irvin peior to starting it.

Agenda for October 2 Meeting

On October 2 we will plan the encampment at May Flather, October 13-15.  We will ask for volunteers to bring the gear listed on the attachment, plan menus (including writing a shopping list), divide into two patrols, and assign kapers.

We will be going down to May Flather on Friday afternoon.  Each girl must bring a bag dinner.  We will have three meals at May Flather on Saturday and breakfast Sunday before leaving.  Lunch on Saturday will be a "mystery meal" (it will be cooked) and we do not have to plan for it.  Each girl should bring to the October 2 meeting, in writing, a menu for one dinner (cooked meal) and one breakfast (can be cooked or cold), including any pots and utensils needed for cooking, dishes and utensils for preparation, and a shopping list for the meal.  Remember that the troop will be cooking its own meals and will need to do all the cleaning up as well.

The organizers of the encampment suggested that we plan to cook on a propane stove rather than getting involved in campfire cooking.  Please plan with that advice in mind.  Tacos are an easy one-pot meal.  Macaroni with any kind of sauce can also be quick and easy.  Fresh fruit is a no-work dessert.  Pudding in plastic bags is a no-clean-up dessert.  Baked apples are easy to cook but the apples need coring and the pot needs cleaning

The leaders want to emphasize the necessity of appropriate behavior at the encampment.  Last time we went to a TOGA encampment, our troop was too loud after hours and the TOGA leadership had to intervene.  Failure to be quiet after lights out will result in adverse consequences which may extend beyond the weekend.

Attached is a general gear list and a packing list.  Please see if there is anything on the list you can volunteer to bring. It is a long walk from the parking area to our campsite.  We may be arriving after dark.  The more you bring with you the more trips you will have to make between the cars and the campsite.  You will also have to carry your share of the troop gear.  Do not bring anything that is not a basic necessity.  Try to pack in a backpack for ease of carrying.

Meeting October 11 for Career Fair

There will be a meeting at 7:30 at Lees Corner Elementary cafeteria for everyone. If you cannot attend (and I know Gina has mandatory band) then you need to let your committee chair know. At a minimum we need one member per committee.

Don’t forget your assignments from you own committee and the one to submit a name of a person (who you have contacted) to the research committee for inclusion as a speaker. Email the name to Pajeemee@aol.com. IF YOU ARE A COMMITTEE CHAIR THEN YOU NEED TO GET YOUR COMMITTEE IN GEAR!! WE CANNOT WAIT TILL THE LAST MINUTE ON A LOT OF THESE THINGS (ESPECAILLY THE REQUIREMENT TO FIND A SPEAKER).

Correction to November 13 Meeting Agenda

No we will not do Career Fair planning after the fair. We will rethink the agenda and let you know.

 Self Defense IP (TOGA activity)

Mark your calendars for February 24 (8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.) when we will earn the IP with the help of the Vienna Police Department. This will be a sensitive issue activity, as topics such as date rape will be discussed. More details will be provided as we get them

Lazy Susan Dinner Theater (TOGA activity)

Mark your calendars for Sunday January 7 when we can go see another mystery (possibly Mousetrap. The cost will be $30.00, which includes gratuity (something that was overlooked in years past). Maybe we can make this a mother/daughter event.

Senior Challenge (TOGA activity)

This is the Gold prerequisite (items 1 – 3) and will take place February 17. A mother-daughter team will be conducting it and it will be an inter-active event. The daughter went all the way through Girl Scouts and earned her Gold Award. The mother, who owns her own consulting company, was her daughter’s troop leader. Mrs. Davis attended a session with these two at Leaderfest last year and thoroughly enjoyed their teaching style.

Item 4 (community service) girls must arrange on their own However, there is the opportunity to finish Item 5 at the Dulles Town Center on October 22 (11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.). Girls need to set this up on their own by contacting Gwen Kjellberg Gshadow9@aol.com. Let her know you need to do 2 hours of recruiting.

White Tail Skiing

The trip will be Monday, January 29, 2001 from 8:30 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. The cost is a little higher than year since the resort changed management. Due to conflicts in the leader’s schedules we will need a Girl Scout trained person to lead the group, if there is interest, or it will have to be a family event. The rates are:

   Lift only - $27.00

Lift & ski/snowboard rental - $46.00

EZ learn to ski/snowboard (includes lower lifts, equipment rental & group lesson) - $41.00

All mountain package (includes lift, equipment rental & group lesson) - $53.00

Let Mrs. Davis know by email  if you are interested and how many from your family plan to attend.  Let her know by October 16.

Halloween Bowling for Girl Scouts

The Chantilly Bowl America has been reserved for Girl Scouts on Saturday, October 28 from 10:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m. The cost is $12.50 and includes unlimited COSMIC bowling, shoes, food buffet & drinks, door prizes, Halloween treats, GS Bowling badge and DJ (songs by request). Let Mrs. Davis know by Monday, October 2 if you are interested as this may fill up fast.

Inauguration

Reserve January 20 on your calendar to work at the inauguration. The next TTG says it will include more information. This will be something we will have to register for IMMEDIATELY so I would like to know who is NOT interested in participating. There is no guarantee that we will be selected to participate but we will certainly register as soon as we can. The fact that we are in high school and this is the only inauguration we will be eligible to attend gives us priority during the selection process.

Reston Service Opportunities

Attached are some opportunities girls can arrange and participate on their own.
